    1. Sarah KIRKBRIDE
    2. I'm looking for information on Sarah Kirkbride. The last time I can find her is in the 1900 census of Monroe Co. Bethel Twp. She is living with her daughter & son-in-law Benjamin Dennis and Nettie Edith (Kirkbride) Dennis. She is 69 & a widow of Ransom Kirkbride. Eventually the Dennis family moved to Wash. Co. but Sarah isn't listed with them so I believe she must have died in Monroe Co. but I don't know when. If there is anyone who may know anything about this family I'd appreciate any help you can give. Will the Monroe Co. Court House or Health Dept. do searches when you don't have the exact date? If so I'll need the address. Thank you Sue

In the 1860 Monroe County, OH census, it has Mary Jane Mott (7)living with John Francis (52) & Amelia Francis (48). I was wondering if they are an aunt and uncle or just some kind souls who took her in? In 1870, they are in the Wayne County, IL census. In the 1880 Wayne County, IL Census, she is married to William C. Bobbitt and Ameila Francis is with them. Any one have any suggestions for me? Thanks so much, Sandra

    1. William Hendricks
    2. In 1880 in Perry Township there is a William G. Hendricks in the household of Henry Hendricks whom I assume to be his son. On July 11, 1880, a William Hendricks marries Charlotte Cline in Monroe Co., Ohio. In Greenbrier Cemetery in Perry Township I find a William Hendrix b. 10 Nov. 1884, age 29 y, 4 m 5 d s/o of H.B. & C. I believe this is the William Hendricks found in 1880 census as Wm G. Hendricks in the 1880 census was 25 years old and this makes this William the right age. I believe it should have been died and not born in 1884. Now in 1900 in Perry Township shows up William Hendricks born March 1854, wed 20 years married to Lotta, born January 1860. The children of this William Hendricks are Archibald P., Henry D., Anna B. and Abram J. In 1910 and 1920 this family is in Springfield City, Jefferson Co., Ohio. Can someone explain to me if we are working with the same William (which I doubt) and who is the second William who shows up in the same township? Thanks for any help you can give me. I believe he must have died by 1930 as can't find them after 1920. Jerilyn

Many of the early records were written in German. Here is some information about the book: Monroe County, Ohio Church Records: By: Dr. Shirley A. Harmon ISBN#978-1-55856-436-7. ...Parish Records of St. Paul's Evangelical Church of Woodsfield, Monroe County, Ohio (1862-1956. This book is a translation of two volumes of parish records of St. Paul's Evangelical church of Woodsfield, Monroe, Ohio. The original records were written in German and English, and they have been transcribed and indexed in English. The records started in 1862, but some information contained in the records was before 1850. Some records continued into the 1950s. In some cases, sufficient information was given on the European origins of some of the individuals in St. Paul's parish to consult and compare microfilms of parish books housed in the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, UT, and this additional information has been included. The records consist of baptism, marriage and death records as well as confirmation information and lists of members. These records are wonderful records and give a picture of early Woodsfield, Ohio and some of its residen! ts. 3. ----- Original Message ----- From: Richard Felts<mailto:[email protected]> To: phall<mailto:[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, February 16, 2005 3:45 PM Subject: Re: Elizabeth Catherine Smith Pat: Thanks for the note. I'll mull over that 1910 census info you sent and see if makes sense. I haven't found many widows return to their maiden names but I suppose it is possible. There is some confusion over where Elizabeth Catherine's parents were born but most of the available records (censuses) seem to point to Ohio for both mother and father. Here's what else I know about Elizabeth Catherine's family. She was one of 4 children. Her older sister, born in 1836, was Amanda Jane. She married Richard Smith Morris and they settled in Clay County, Illinois. (By the way, Clay County is on the eastern side of Illinois.) I have not been able to determine the relationship, if any, between Richard Smith Morris's family and the Morris family with whom Elizabeth Catherine was apparently living in the 1850 Monroe County census. Elizabeth Catherine had a younger brother, Thomas Alexander Smith, born in 1842 (but we can't figure out how his surname is Smith if his father died in 1840!). And there was a younger sister, Melvina, born in 1844. I have excellent records for three of the siblings (Amanda Jane, Thomas Alexander, and Melvina) but nothing for Elizabeth Catherine. She's the puzzle. Dick Felts Gainesville, GA ----- Original Message ----- From: phall<mailto:[email protected]> To: [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, February 16, 2005 2:40 PM Subject: Elizabeth Catherine Smith There are several people researching the Morris family in Monroe Co. Oh., on this list. Perhaps one of them will contact you. I did a quick search on Ancestry, and only Elizabeth C. Smith I could find in Il. it was her married name. Or maybe she took her name back, but it showed that she was married 44 years and a widow. Anyway thing that drew her to me was that they lived in Mo. in the 1910 census, which is right across the border from IL. and that she was b. in Oh. Nodaway Co. Mo. 2-WD Hopkins Twp. The name is Clutter, Harry C. b. in Ks. his wife Deborah P. b. IL their son Halbert b. Mo. and then Elizabeth. Says she is 70 in that census, which would put it pretty close to her birth date. says her father was b. in Canada, and mother in Va. I also checked LDS records, and could find nothing in IL or OH. I also looked for Cunningham in IL, and found several but not in Clay Co. IL Do you know what the married name of her sister was? 1. Elizabeth Catherine SMITH - 1838
    2. Richard Felts
    3. I'm looking for any clues about what might have happened to Elizabeth Catherine SMITH following her early years in Monroe County. Elizabeth was the second daughter of James Smith and Mahala Kirkbride Smith. Elizabeth was born in 1838 and her father died in 1839 or 1840. Legal notices mention that Elizabeth Catherine and her older sister, Amanda Jane, were given a guardian, James Cunningham, in 1840. I believe I have found Elizabeth living with the family of James and Mary Morris in Woodsfield in the 1850 census. Unfortunately, the 1850 census entry is the last record I have of Elizabeth. She is rumored to have moved to Clay County, Illinois where her sister eventually settled but extensive searches of records in Clay County have not located Elizabeth. I would be in interested in knowing if anyone has any type of record for Elizabeth in Monroe County after 1850. Of particular interest would be a marriage or death record, or any sort of legal notice. Any help is much appreciated. Dick Felts Gainesville, GA
