    1. Kincade - Antioch Cemetery, Monroe County
    2. Mary Hart
    3. Does anyone know where I can find a listing of the burials in the Antioch Cemetery. I understand there are Kincades buried there -- I understand Nancy Kincade, who died in 1866, is buried there and that perhaps her husband, Samuel, is also there. I would like to know if there is a stone for him, showing when he died -- or if there is any other way of determining when he died. Is it possible to find probate records or land transactions before the date of 1867 when the courthouse burned -- or am I out of luck since she died in 1866 and he perhaps died before her? Thanks for your help. Mary Hart

    1. Re: OHMONROE-Surnames of Monroe Co.
    2. I started to hit the big D button when it dawned on me that Sardis was a town w/ rang a bell. My Mother, Lela GREEN, d/o of James Franklin and Nora ORANGE GREEN lived there for some short period of time in her childhood. For the life of me, I could not tell you when but I might be able to pinpoint the dates through her brother, Harlan GREEN who just celebrated his 97th birthday. He is in Flint, MI but I remain in close touch w his children. I seem to remember Mother talking about going to grade school there but I am not certain. She was born in Graysville and of course I remember Woodsfield being discussed. My grandmother ORANGE, Mary Ellen WINLAND ORANGE was the only person in Monroe Co whom I remember at all. Vague memories of early family reunions at her house and her funeral are about the only real memories I have. I remember Hartzorne Ridge being mentioned and I know that the NICHLSONS owned a small grocery story on the T road at the end of Grandmother Orange's road but I have no idea of the name of her road. I just remember older girl cousins whose legs were longer than mine taking me down the road, up a little hill and turning left to the store where we bought a treat. Mother later told me the store was originally owned by the NICHOLSONS and BATTENS. The oldest GREEN daughter married a BATTEN. She was my great aunt Minnie, oldest daughter to Thomas Franklin GREEN and his wife Nancy Ellen NICHOLSON who died shortly after her eleventh child whom she had at the age of 38. Minnie stayed home and helped her father raise the large family even after she married BATTEN and had her own family. Any of this ring any bells w Monore natives? I haven't been in the county for a long time but I remember quite a bit about it and discussed it w/ my Mother till she died in 1999 She loved to talk about her days of living in Monroe Co. Her dad, James, worked in the oil fields and went to TX to help bring in early wells there. They moved to Ranger, TX for a short period of time but came back to the Bremen area. His brother George worked in the oil field industry also., Marjory PETTY Austen, daughter of Alva PETTY, Perry Co. and Lela GREEN, Bremen .OH. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/SWB.2ACE/1065.2.1 Message Board Post: I would guess then that you must be the daughter of Ruth Burns Collins; my name is Tom THUMM and we would be 5th cousins (correction - 4th cousins). As a family researcher for over thirty years, what began as a project to answer questions for my 66 year old grandmother in 1971 has become a love that I am eager to share with all family members (grandma, by the way, is alive and kickin' and will celebrate her 97th next month!). Over time, I have compiled a library of the family histories of my 32 ggg grandparents ancestral and descendant families, as well as the 32ggg grandparents ancestral and descendant families of my wife -- comprising a collection of histories that make up the ancestral and descendant stories of the 64 4xg grandparents of my children. I share the family histories -- free of charge -- with all who care enough to take the time to contribute their knowledge on their individual branch or otherwise have an interest the history that connects us to our relatives and ancestors. In addition, I maintain family mailing lists to provide periodic updates to other related family researchers as new information is discovered and added. If you are interested, I -- and other interested relatives -- would be very pleased to fill in your branch of our tree. We share a ggg grandfather Peter ROß/ROSS and ggg grandmother Margaret, nee BAUMAN, ROß/ROSS; your gggrandfather Johann "John" ROSS was their eldest son and my gggrandmother Barbara M. ROSS THUMM was their youngest of three daughters. Peter ROSS emigrated on the ship "Parkfield", which arrived in NY on 10 Aug 1854 from Hamburg Germany. His accompanying family included his second wife, Eva (nee Reuschel) ROSS and daughters, Catharina, age 17, Margaretha, 11, Barbara, 6, Kunigunde, 3, Regine, infant; a son, John, 9 The father's occupation on ship's manifest was listed as farmer. "Peter Ross was born in Oberpreuschwitz, Bayreuth, Bayern on 28 October 1800. He married in 1832 Margaret BAUMANN of Oberpreuschwitz with whom he had seven children. She died in 1849 and in the following year he married Eve Keuschel of Misselbach and they had 2 children. They came in 1854 to America. He died 23 January 1855, Beaver County PA." Obit from the records of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Wall Rose, Beaver County PA Upon his death, all evidence indicates that the second wife and widowed step-mother to the eldest children, placed the 3 minor children of the 4 documented step-children into the care of the religious commune in Old Economie (the eldest daughter, Anna Katharina "Kate" Ross, was at this time 18 years old and an adult; she married Matthias "Mathew" Guttmann three years later in 1858) . The step-mother remained in the immediate vicinity, recorded in the records of St. Mathews Lutheran Church, Walls Rose, Beaver County PA in the marriage to her second husband Georg Heinrich KREDE on 24Jan1856 (exactly one day and one year after the death of her previous husband/our ggggrandfather). SOOOOOOOOOOO, as you see from the text above, my gggrandmother and your gggrandfather were orphans within 5 months of arriving in this country from Germany, given up by their stepmother! If you think that this family history may be of interest to you or your family, let me know. I know your grandmother Alvie is a retired teacher and had the two children. My understanding is that her divorced husband George died in a truck accident hauling logs out west -- but this is anecdotal and I would love details to verify info. Did she ever remarry?. I have no biographical info on your mother and Father Frank COLLINS (I am making an assumption there -- forgive me). I know even less about her brother Frank. Anything you could provide on these questions and/or the descendants of Ruth would be great for a start! I will be glad to share the entire history of over 200 pages plus pics. If not, I am sorry for the time I have taken and apologize for any intrusion into your time. Appreciatively - your cuz. Tom

    3. Looking for someone who may have the Antioch General Store Ledger from around 1860-1881. There are legends in this area that the James-Younger Gang may have hid out here for a while. According to some local people Frank & Jesse James may have signed the ledger for tabs. They have also been credited with staying being near Laings and Cameron. There is also supposed to be a huge rock located somewhere here in Monroe County with the initials J.B., F.J. and J.J. It is possible that they really were here because riding with Quantrell/Quantrill (a confederate sympathizer) who was from Dover, OH during the civil war who hung out with them before the bank/train robberies. Would love to hear from anyone who maybe able to contribute to this research. I am looking for this information because one of the James-Younger gang members may possibly be a gg g? grandfather to my spouse. We can not get find a name for the grandfather and a story has been passed down that one of the James Gang members was here or in Parkersburg, WV and the Grandmother refused to tell who the father was. I have come across my line where my family moved from Marietta to KS and Missouri close to where Frank & Jesse James were from and did a lot of bank robberies. Thank you for any help you can give.

    2. Enos Morris married Lucinda Slusher on July 1, 1856 in Monroe Co., Ohio and then Enos died on August 12, 1856. He is buried in the Quaker Cemetery, Jerusalem, Malaga Township, Monroe Co., Ohio. Supposedly she is also buried there, but what happened to her after he died? I found her (I think it is her) listed in the William Hardesty home as Lucinda Morris, age 27. That is the last time I can find her. I wonder if she wed again before 1867. Anyone have any ideas on her? Thanks. Jerilyn
