This is very true. My computer crashed a few years back and I lost my genealogy information. I tried to get them to give me it and they said only with a subscription !! Not all of them are still in Roots, Some of the ones I seen there in Roots of my families are gone since Ancestry got into it. THey told those who wanted to remove their info to do it. Only the submitter can delete the trees at RootsWeb WorldConnect. If the trees are no longer there, then the owner decided for whatever reason to remove it. That is an excellent point, Debbie. We can all search at RootsWeb for free and it is a part of Ancestry.com. What's more, they host this and all other mailing lists and offer free websites - the GenWeb sites, FreePages. So even though they charge for their main website, they also give back a lot to the genealogical community. If someone has no problem with giving their hard work to a company and letting them make money off of it, and having to maybe pay to retrieve your own information if you have a crash, then all the more power to you. Most people find it objectionable and arrogant. That's the only point I'm trying to make...
