My most recent Miami County ancestors are Samuel Teague Coate and Harriet Anthony (his wife). They were born in Miami in 1818 and 1821, respectively, and died in 1886 in Miami, OH and 1881 in Iowa, respectively. Samuel Teague Coate is the son of James Coate and Lurannah Teague. James was born in 1777, and Lurannah was born in 1786 in SC. They had other children besides Samuel and died in Miami, OH in 1839 and 1863, respectively. James Coate's parents are Marmaduke Coate and Mary Jane Coppock, who were born in New Jersey and Pennsylvania in 1733 and 1743, respectively. They lived for a time in Newberry, SC, and died in Miami, OH in 1822 and 1833, again respectively. Lurannah Teague's parents are Samuel Teague and Rebecca Furnas, who were born in SC in 1769 and 1764, and died in Montgomery, OH (a county neighboring Miami) in 1841 and 1862, respectively. Harriet Anthony's parents were Daniel Anthony and Susannah Mendenhall. Little is known about Daniel (I'd love any information) -- he seems to have been born before 1800, probably in the east (perhaps NC or SC) and to have died between 1820 and the early 1830s in Miami, OH (perhaps sooner, in that they have no other children, however, Susannah remarried in 1834). Susanna Mendenhall was born in Guilford, NC in 1799, and died in Marshall, IA in 1865. However, she lived a good part of her life in Miami, OH, and Daniel and Susannah were married in Miami in 1820. As referred to above, I know nothing about Daniel Anthony -- he's one of my brick walls. Susannah Mendenhall is the daughter of Caleb Mendenhall and Susanna Gardner, born 1769 and 1771 in Guilford, NC, respectively. Caleb died in Wayne, IN in 1848, and Susanna died in Ohio. They had numerous children, some born in Guilford and some in Miami, OH. Many of these people were Quakers, especially at the time they came from NC/SC to Miami, OH.
