"The first one was operated by Hiram YOCKEY at Silver Creek; a Mr. GARLOW was the owner of a brick company on Chestnut Street; another on West Street was operated by Mr Gito. On the outskirts of town was a brickyard on the HINSDALE farm at Clark'sCorners, while Theodore Stauffer owned a yard just off Diagonal Road." The book goes on to describe the stone quarries and cement block factories, and the sash, door, and blind industry helped further supply building needs. I recall my father taking me to a brick furnace on the west side of south Main Street sometime in the early 1930s. I was impressed with the operation as any small boy would be. I hope this might be of some help to you. Jim Pardee P O Box 4520 Deland FL 32721
