Is this the same crew as the Strayers who were in Van Wert County later on? I'm wondering specifically about other children between Susannah and the ones who are listed on the 1840 census. Is there any chance that John was divorced from a first wife? Just a theory. I have been unable to connect Mrs. Lydia Strayer, who was in Miami County, Indiana by 1850, with any particular husband, yet she had at least two Strayer children that I know of -- Simon (born in 1823 or 1824) and Samuel (b. 1834 or 1835). One long shot -- conceivably this might be the John Strayer who appears on the Freeburg, Union County (now Snyder County) census of 1830. He's gone by 1840.
