He was a former resident of 3601 East Lake Rd, Sheffield Lake. Thomas, who was the 30 year owner and operator of the Arco station on the corner of East Erie and Iowa Avenue served as a First Ward Councilman from 1942 to 1948. While in council he was instrumental in formulating legislation seeking cooperation with the state to protect city - owned property against shore erosion. Some of the other programs he worked for included police protection in his ward for school children and the stationing of extra personnel at Lorains' Number Four Fire station. A Lorain native, he was a 1924 graduate of Lorain High School and received a bachelors degree in business administration from Ohio Wesleyan College. He was a mjember of Lorain Elks Lodge No. 1301, the Lorain Lions Club and the Senior Fellowship, and the Church of the Redeemer. An amateur photographer and former air raid official during World War II, Thomas saw his job as a city councilman as more than a "sideline". to him it was a feeling of well being knowing he was making a worthwhile contribution to his community. Surviving are his wife Isabella M: three sons, William C. of Lake Hasu City, Ariz., Bert of Lorain and Jon of Lake city, Fla; seven grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Selma [Thelma] Heyer of Cleveland.
