Many thanks to the transcribers of the 1870 census for Medina County. If anyone on this list knows email of Dave VanDoren, the transcriber. or Connie Burkett, the proofreader, I would like to thank them. I found my husband's ancestor and family in the Medina census posted on www.usgenweb.com in the state archives for Ohio. Searching for SCHREFFLER, even though we spell the name SHREFFLER, I found Levi SHREFFLER (spelled Shreffeler on the census and Schreffler on the 1874 atlas.) If they had omitted their "note" Schreffler on atlas, I never would have found the family. Does anyone know anything about the OVER surname? Levi SHREFFLER married Barbara OVER. There are OVER in the 1870 census for Medina County. Census says Levi was a carpenter. He was in his 40s at the time of the census. Levi and Barbara (Over) Shreffler may have lived at Red Haw, Ohio east of Ashland, because there is a child, Henry, son of L.and B. Shreffler buried at Red Haw cemetery. Levi was the youngest of 15 children. His family settled at Red Haw in 1825, when he was just three months old. Levi died in Ashland, Ohio at the home of his son, Grant SHREFFLER, in 1909. Grant's full name was Ulysses S. Grant SHREFFLER. Was there a German settlement at Harrisville in the 1870s? What churches were in Harrisville? I do not know where Barbara (Over) Shreffler was buried. Levi remarried to Sarah Farver after Barbara died. I would like to know where Levi SHREFFLER lived in 1880 and 1890.
