The placename, "Leroy", could have been in New York or another State. Now I can eliminate the Ohio one. Stephen Kelley, buried nearby my Lemuel at Bennett's Corners Cemetery, has been a puzzle to me, especially since a bio of him says he was from Hamburg, NY (same place Lemuel was born). I agree there is SOME connection. About the Clement burials - There was a Clement connection through Selecta Carpenter Morton, sister of Lemuel's first wife, Sarah. Selecta's dau-in-law was Amy Clement Morton.I think, however, there may have been an error in copying or transcribing the tombstone inscriptions? >From your comment about who might have been the "father" referred to in Lemuel's journal, I did check out the fathers-in-law. Lemuel's first wife was Sarah Carpenter. Her father, Zachariah, died 1831. Second wife was Sarah's cousin, Mahala Chloe Carpenter, daughter of Zachariah's brother, David Carpenter. David died 1863. The David and Florence Kelley buried at Bennett's Corners is son and dau-in-law of Lemuel and Chloe. So, I still have this one good clue about the father of Lemuel - his death date. Does anyone know if there might be a clue as to his whereabouts by the fact Lemuel could know about his death the same day in order to enter it into his journal? The entry didn't appear to have been squeezed into a space for that day as though he heard about it later and forced the words onto that line. What would have been the quickest mode of communication in 1879 from farther away? Trains were running then- and telegraph? Jean, thanks again for all you do.
