    3. The Great Lakes Chapter of the Association of Professional Genealogists is sponsoring an Advanced Genealogy Discussion Group. The next meeting is on Saturday, September 17, 2005. The purpose of the group is to discuss advanced genealogical methodology as presented in case studies that have appeared in various scholarly genealogical publications. The group meets the third Saturday of the month, starting at 10:00 am, at one of the Akron-Summit County Public Library meeting rooms. The library is located at 60 South High St., Akron, OH. The meetings last about one and one-half hours. The discussions are free but pre-registration is required. Any experienced genealogical researcher is welcome to enroll. As a pre-requisite, participants should be familiar with Dr. William M. Litchman's article, "Teaching Analysis, Logic, and the Research Process: A Seminar Approach", from the NGS News Magazine, Nov/Dec 2000, pages 340-343. Each participant is requested to read several times, in advance of the meeting, the article to be discussed at the meeting. The article chosen for the September 17, 2005 discussion appeared in the National Genealogical Society Quarterly, June 2005. It is titled "Tracking a Loner on the Move: J. W. Parberry Exposed by the Genealogical Proof Standard" beginning on page 94. To register, or for any questions, contact Robert Keener at rkeener@neo.rr.com or call (330) 836-4448.

    3. I have a Mary Susanna Bechtel born in the 1720s in Franckenthal, Pfalz, Germany who married Rev. John Levering 19 May 1748 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Her sister Maria Agneta Bechtel married Cornelius Weygandt 5 July 1739 in Germantown, PA. It was their grandson Rev. George Henry Weygandt that came to Chippewa Twp., Wayne County, Ohio on the border with Medina County in 1827. The Bechtels were Moravian but the Rev. G.H. Weygandt was Lutheran. So there is at least some sort of Ohio/Pennsylvania connection of Bechtels back to Bethlehem, Nazareth, and Germantown, PA. -- Elissa Elissa Scalise Powell, CGRS www.PowellGenealogy.com CGRS and Certified Genealogical Records Specialist are Service Marks of the Board for Certification of Genealogists used under license after periodic evaluations by the Board. http://www.BCGcertification.org/ > -----Original Message----- > From: gc-gateway@rootsweb.com [mailto:gc-gateway@rootsweb.com] On Behalf > Of mikegor51@aol.com > Sent: Tuesday, August 30, 2005 9:33 AM > > Trying to establish family connection with Susanna Bechtel b: Dec. 1816 > d.: Aug. 8, 1893 m: Peter Yoder, member Wadsworth Mennonite Church. > Looking information on Children, Parents & Grandparents. 3. I once heard Kurt Witcher, who is head of the Allen County Library (Ft. Wayne) give a talk who said to stop putting your surnames into search engines and try searching via the ethnic groups. His reasoning was quite realistic and the proof that he offered made tons of sense. By reading this message I can see where that might work very well. They had arrived in the port of Philadelphia in 1727 on the ship Friendship. At that time Philadelphia was a larger port than New York and Pennsylvania was very heavily German. Their name changed from Eberhardt to Everhard by the time they arrived in Ohio 85 years later. The Hartmans came to Medina County about 1832 traveling directly from eastern PA to Medina County. They came with the Seiberlings but as far as I can tell were not related to them. Hartman Road in Wadsworth is named for my Hartmans. Also look for religious affiliations. My Rev. 2. Johannes LEUSZLER (pronounced something like "LOYTS-ler") came with his family from Germany to PA. He was born early 1800s in Greenberg, Hesse-Darmstadt. His family settled in Doylestown, PA and he married Catherine LONG of PA (probably of German parentage as well) in 1833 and they had ten children. First eight born in Doylestown and last two in Wadsworth, Medina county OH, so they moved to Ohio about 1849. I am told Mr. LEUSZLER was a Lutheran minister. Don't know yet on which ship they arrived. Kevin in MO

    3. Elissa, This is incredible....My 2nd great grandparents (Michael Ford & Rebecca VanHouten) were married by Rev. Weygandt in Wayne County, Ohio in 1828. Do you have any idea where the church was located that year? Just in the last two days I have been trying to ascertain where Michael and Rebecca were in 1830, shortly after they were married. I found a Michael Ford living in Guilford, Medina Co. in the census that fit the profile to be his family, but wasn't quite sure if that was him because I figured he would be near his father in Chippewa. Now I am feeling pretty confident about my Michael being the fellow in Medina County. What else can you tell me about Rev. Weygandt in Medina and his church? I would like to know the name of the denomination and whether there are any church records still around. Michael Ford had a sister named Esther who I have reason to believe married and lived in Medina County, but I can't find any record of her anywhere. Do you think people living in Chippewa attended that church?
