    1. [OHMEDINA-L] Baker, Dague Marriage found
    2. Hi Diane and list, Thank you so much, Diane! Yes, Margaret BAKER and Frederick DAGE married Feb. 9, 1837 in WAYNE CO. OHIO is the couple I mean. Would you please tell me where you obtained that information? That date is also given in the book, _75 Years of Wayne County Marriages_. The problem is that the Wayne Co., Burial book states that Frederick's first wife, my 3rd great grandmother, died in 1851 (DAGE, Catherine, wife of Frederick DAGE. Died July 19, 1851. 58 years. 2 mo. 9 day, Row 2 no 8 of Hoover-Swagler Cemetery -- Frederick DAGE is buried next to her). I think that Margaret BAKER DAGE is buried in the Black River Brethren, Cemetery, Medina Co. Some of Frederick and Catherine's children had moved to Penfield (just over the Medina/Lorain Co. line and were founding members of Black River Brethren. I think that Margaret must have moved there after Frederick's death. The 1850 Census also contradicts the 1851 death date for Catherine Dage (DAGE, Frederick 64 PA farmer Milton Twp, Margaret 49 VA, James 10 OH). It seems strange to me that the Wayne Co. Burial book could be wrong, because it is so specific about Catherine's age at death -- down to how many months and days she was over age 58. A child named James lived with Frederick and Margaret at the time of the 1850 Census, but it is our understanding that they had no children during their marriage and we have no record of a James DAGUE. James could be their child, though. Or, if this 10-year-old child is from Margaret's first marriage to Mr. BAKER, she could not have been married to Frederick in 1837, because James was born in either 1839 or 1840. In census records, if a child is unrelated to the family with whom he lived, or if his surname is different, wasn't the child's surname also recorded? To complicate this further, we have a photo that we have believed to be of Frederick and his first wife, Catherine DAGE. If she died in 1834, the woman in the photo could not be she, because photography was not available until 1839 -- probably later in rural Ohio. If anyone has suggestions, I would be grateful. Also, I would love to hear from descendants of Margaret BAKER. Diane, thank you again for your kindness in helping me with this. 2. Hi Everyone, Below are some surnames from 19th century letters that someone asked me to post on this list, because all of the folks with those surnames lived in this area. If you see names that you recognize, contact Sandy at [email protected] The first two names on the list our my great grandmother, Christy ARCHER DAGUE and her sister, Emma. The letters were written before their marriages when they were still young women. 1. [OHMEDINA-L] Re: Seth S. Walker, Orrin H. Walker, Asaph and Benjamin Landers
    2. Are there any descendants of Seth S. Walker who died 1865 in Medina Township, Medina County, OH still in the area? Circumstantial evidence (1840 OH Federal Census) indicates he and my ancestor, Orrin H. Walker were enumerated as being in the same residence. They also sold land in the 1830s in Medina County. Jesse Walker of New Salem, MA. was the father of Orrin born in 1792 and Seth born in 1794. LDS church records indicate Seth was a member of the Mormon faith, born in New Salem, MA., and his father was Jesse Walker. Not being a member of this religious denomination, I do not have the privilege of perusing Seth's Temple Records. In 1854 all the Town Records of New Salem, MA., were burned, so there is not any record of Orrin's birth, etc. His marriage in Charlton, MA., is recorded as is his death in MI where he and his family migrated in 1842 along with Asaph and Benjamin Landers families. Orrin's daughter, Lucy, married Benjamin Landers in 1841 in York Township, Medina County, OH. Any information regarding any of the Walker or Landers families will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your consideration of this request, Madeline M. Fiske
