    1. [OHMEDINA-L] William C. & Belinda (PALMER?) STREETER; Steuben Co., NY > OH
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: ATHERTHON HOPKINS PALMER SPENCER STREETER Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/HZB.2ACI/498 Message Board Post: William C. & Belinda (PALMER?) STREETER; Steuben Co., NY > OH I am seeking all genealogical and biographical details for the family documented below, including their ancestors, children, and grandchildren and the spouses thereof, including the full names of those spouses' parents. All additions and corrections, however speculative, will be greatly appreciated. Perry Streeter ([email protected]) Greenwood, New York http://www.perry.streeter.com William C.-2 STREETER (Thomas-1) was born in the Town of Bath, Steuben County, New York on 21 January 1812 (Hall BRs); he died in [Summit County, Ohio] on or before 2 May 1900; he was married in the Town of Canisteo, Steuben County, New York on 23 October 1835 by J. Powers to Belinda [PALMER?], born "Sioustown," New York, died of Pneumonia at the age of 77 years, 7 months and 10 days in Coventry Township, Summit County, Ohio on 10 February 1895 (Summit County, Ohio Records of Deaths; 2:64), buried 12 February 1895, presumably in the cemetery of the First Church of Christ in Akron, Summit County, Ohio where her funeral was held. I can find no record of any place in New York State currently or historically named "Sioustown" but perhaps Belinda was the daughter of Ann PALMER who resided in the Streeter household in 1870. Until 2001, I thought that William had probably died in Canisteo in late 1839 or 1840 because he witnessed the will of Lemuel Searl with Benjamin B. Crosby and Jarathamael Powers in 1839 but is not found in the census of 1840. In addition, he was not named in a letter of 5 August 1847 written to Thomas-2 STREETER from his brother-in-law, Michael BUCHANAN, in which all the other sons of Thomas-1 STREETER are mentioned. Fortunately, in 2001, Lola Barrett, Genealogist of The Streeter Family Association, found records in the National Archives pertaining to the service of William's son, Edward Andrew (526691 and 625675). According to the statements provided in Edward's pension files, the family moved in early 1862 from LaFayette, Medina County, Ohio to Weymouth, Medina County, Ohio where they purchased a farm. As a poor shoemaker, William was unable to finish paying for the farm. In 1870, the Streeters were residing in Medina Township, Medina County, Ohio. Their household included Ann PALMER; she was 74-year-old native of England. In 1880, William and Belinda were residing alone in Medina Township with only their granddaughter, Jesse SPENCER. When Belinda died on 10 February 1895, the family was residing on Sterling Street in Coventry, Ohio. William C. must have moved shortly thereafter, perhaps to reside with one of his children, for he is cited as a resident of Richfield, Summit County, Ohio in 1895 when he was still receiving $12 each month from Edward's pension. Children (there may have been others born between Edward and John): i. Edward Andrew-3, d. Streeter farm, Weymouth Township, Medina Co., OH 1862; enlisted at Medina Co. OH 22 Sep 1861 as a Private in Co. B, 42nd Regiment, Ohio Infantry; contracted Typhoid Fever within months and returned home to die. ii. John M., b. 30 Oct 1844; d. young in an accident; m. Medina Co., OH 4 Sep 1870 Adeline ATHERTON. iii. Mary Eliza Jane, b. 23 Feb 1847; m. Medina Co., OH 17 Feb 1867 Nathaniel SPENCER. Did they both die prior to 1870 when their daughter was residing with William and Belinda? Child, surname SPENCER: 1. Jesse, b. OH ca. 1872. iv. Sarah Orisa, b. 7 March 1849. v. Thomas Darius, b. OH 17 March 1855; m. Summit Co., OH 30 Dec 1885 Lillian M. HOPKINS. vi. Eurial William, b. 19 April 1857. vii. Flora Ellen, b. OH 11, 17 or 19 Feb 1862.
