Hi! Looking for information on Levi Clark who appears in the 1820 census in Medina County, Ohio. He may be related to Miles Clark (per guardianship records). Also looking for info on Jonah and John Turner who appear in the early census records. Any help appreciated, Donna M. Wolf

I have looked at this Spellman Rockefeller Line before. I don't know if I belong to them. That is my dilema. My Great Grandfather's Obituary says he was born; William Alonzo Spellman b. December 31, 1832 Wadsworth, Medina County Ohio. His parents were James & Eliza Spellman. I guess there were 3 Spellman Families, all in Wadsworth, Ohio in 1832, and they all copied each others childrens names. There were the English Spellmans, the German Spellman's, and the Irish Spellman's. Which strain is mine, I'm trying to find out. ??? Can you help me with this? Sincerely, and with MUCH Appreciation! Spelman, the mother of Mrs. John D. Rockefeller, Sr. started a chain store business in Wadsworth. "In a financial partnership with Mr. Roswell Kent of Middlebury, Mr. Spelman opened a branch store in Wadsworth in 1833 . . .It appears that the building he reected there was both a store and a home for his family, for here his younger daughter, Laura Celestia Spelman, was born on September 9, 1839." "Not long after Laura Spelman's birth the family moved to Kent, where her father conducted another branch store, and in 1841 to Akron, where Mr. Spelman, in partnership with Charles Clapp, had a mercantile business. . .At the same time he also had a branch store at River Styx. In 1841 he also became a member of Akron's first school board, and in 1849 he was elected a rewpresentative to the Ohio Legislature..." "Laura Spelman Rockefeller's mother was Lucy Henry, before her marriage a pioneer schoolteacher in a log schoolhouse at LeRoy." Eventually Harvey Spelman moved to Cleveland, where his daughter Laura attended old Central High School, then on Euclid Avenue opposite East Sixth Street. . ." Laura had a sister named Lucy. Also, check out http://www.rootsweb.com/~cenfiles/oh/medina/1840/pg177.txt.Several Spellman's, Brown's, and at leat one Curtis are listed.

I have a copy from the courthouse of a deed index that says: "1833, Oct. 19-Jonathan Hunt from Eliazur Morton, Vol. G, Page 459, Twp. 11 (York) Tr. 1 Lot 13 116.95 ac (Ogden-Monroe Co., New York)" There are two other transactions, in 1839 and 1848, the last being a sale (with wife Hannah) of 33.77 acres to C.J. HUNT. Hope this is helpful in your search!

The Great Lakes Chapter of the Association of Professional Genealogists is sponsoring an Advanced Genealogy Discussion Group. The next meeting is on Saturday, September 11, 2004. The purpose of the group is to discuss advanced genealogical methodology as presented in case studies that have appeared in various scholarly genealogical publications. The group meets the second Saturday of the month, starting at 10:00 am, at the Medina County District Library annex meeting room in September, October and November of 2004. The library is located at 210 South Broadway St., Medina, OH. The meetings last about one and one-half hours. There will be no meetings in July, August, or December. The discussions are free but pre-registration is required. Any experienced genealogical researcher is welcome to attend. As a pre-requisite, participants should be familiar with Dr. William M. Litchman's article, "Teaching Analysis, Logic, and the Research Process: A Seminar Approach", from the NGS News Magazine, Nov/Dec 2000, pages 340-343. Each participant is requested to read several times, in advance of the meeting, the article to be discussed at the meeting. The article chosen for the September 11, 2004 discussion appeared in the National Genealogical Society Quarterly, Vol. 82, no.3, September 1994. It is titled "The Four Fathers of Amzi Leach: Analysis of Conflicting Evidence," beginning on page 207. To register, or for any questions, contact Donna Gruber at djg@bright.net or call (419) 846-3533.

It states last place of residence as York Township, Medina County, Ohio. I have looked in the book "Inscriptions of Medina County" and he is not listed.
