I have studied the Caseys in Madison County from the 1860 to 1900 censuses and I have part of the puzzle figured out. I see a Lynch connection, and there are definitly several Kelly connections, as well as a Herlihy family. In 1860 there were various Caseys in Madison County: Daniel who was married and had a couple of kids, and then Johanna, Ellen, Jeremiah, Cornelius and Patrick, who were all working on other people's farms. There is also an interesting Ellen Casey who is 64-67 years old and living with a Herlihy family. Also at the Herlihy family is a Cornelius Kelly. I assume Ellen Sr is the mother of Mary Herlihy, but no idea about Kelly. I have no idea where the Herlihys went in 1870, but they show up in 1880 in the NW corner of the state running a hotel. In 1870 Ellen Casey Sr is living with the Lynch family, so I assume Ellen Jr became Ellen Lynch, so that connects her to Mary Herlihy and Kelly. John & Cornelius Casey had been working at the same farm in 1860 and were both married with kids by 1870. Patrick disappeared from Madison Co. Jeremiah is around but doesn't show up in the census until 1880. Jeremiah married a woman named Margaret Kelley. No idea if she was related to Conelius Kelly. By 1880 John is gone and there is no trace of his wife or kids either. Cornelius Casey is dead and his wife and kids are living with Cornelius KELLY. So I wonder if Cornelius' wife Johanna was also born a Kelly. She is listed as a servant at his house. By 1900 Jeremiah is still alive and has several kids living at home, most of the sons are railroad brakemen, and also living with him is his nephew Jeremiah. I have definitely connected Cornelius, John, Jeremiah, and Ellen Jr and Ellen Sr Casey. And the Woodhouses being neighbors of John Casey strongly suggests a Johanna connection too, since Johanna Casey and Elizabeth Woodhouse both married Carolan brothers and moved to Winneshiek Co Iowa. The strange thing is the old lady Ellen Casey. She would have been 46 to 50 years old at the time younger Ellen was born. I wonder if she was a grandmother, and not a mother. But she is very young (33 to 37) to be Mary Herlihy's grandmother. Of course the ages on the censuses are not very reliable. I went on family history org and looked for Caseys with Patrick and Cate for parents. I found some that might have fit, but not for all of the Casey siblings. I did see one for Patrick Casey and Cate Herlihy in Ballyvourney, Co Cork, but that only fit for a couple of the brothers. It seems like with the Kellys and Caseys (and maybe even the Herlihys), this might be one of those situations were multiple members of one family marry multiple members of another family. I still haven't found any connections with Daniel or Patrick Casey living in Madison Co OH yet. Not all of the younger Caseys in 1860 may have been siblings, some may have been aunts/uncles or cousins. Johanna Casey's marriage license in Prairie du Chien, Wisc says her parents were Patrick and Catherine. So Ellen Sr could have been her aunt or grandmother (pushing it age-wise). The LDS familysearch.org shows some possible parents in Ireland in Ballyvourney. Patrick Casey and Cate Herlihy are listed as parents for John, Daniel, and two other unnamed males (Jeremiah and Cornelius?). Jerry Casey and Ellen Dinnan are listed as parents for Daniel, Patrick and Johanna. And Darby Casey and Ellen Dinneen are listed as parents of an Ellen Casey.

    3. The Casey's are very confusing. My great grandmother was Margaret (Dineen) Slattery, so I have been researching her relatives. There are three Cornelius Casey's that I have found. Here is St Patrick's church reconstructed 1875 parish census: 38. CASEY, husband dead Wife: Mrs. Cornelius - Johanna KELLY, 34, 1916, widow Marriage Date: 1863 Residence: Oak Street Children: four Julia, 11 Mary H., 9 Johanna, 5 Patrick, 3 Their daughter, Mary, married Michael Herlihy. In 1860 they lived two houses from my great grandfather, James William Slattery, although James was only 7 at that time. Mary's mother, Ellen, was living with here. I do not understand the relationship for the Cornelius Kelly that was also living with them. Ellen (Kelly) Casey is buried at St Pat's in the cemetery lot that was purchased by Margaret (Dineen) Slattery's father, William Dineen. The Dineen's are also from Ballyvourney, County Cork, Ireland. Here is the cemetery record: CEMETERY RECORD - Page: None listed, St Pat's Catholic Cemetery, London, Madison County, Ohio Owner - William Dineen; purchased on date not known Size: 8 grave; Location: Old Section Lot Record: No record of deed; Section: N; Lot 3 Grave 1 - William Dineen, 1883, age 79 Grave 2 - Mrs. William (Catherine Creedon) Dineen, 1893 age 65 Grave 3 - Dineen Infant, no death year, age 1 day Grave 4 - Grave 5 - Julia Dineen, 1871, age 8 Grave 6 - Mrs. Jeremiah (Ellen Kelly) Casey, 1871, age 79 Grave 7 - Michael Kelly, 1867, age 75 Grave 8 - listed as occupied, but no further description 1935 Notes: Grave 1 is dug a little over because Ellen Lynch on the neighboring lot 2 grave came over the line. The stone on grave 2 has 'Creed' on it, should be Creedon. In 1870, Ellen (Kelly) Casey is living with her daughter, Ellen (Casey) Lynch, who is married to Jeremiah Lynch. Here is a cemetery record for a lot owned by Jeremiah: CEMETERY RECORD - Page: None listed, St Pat's Catholic Cemetery, London, Madison County, Ohio Owner - Jeremiah Lynch; purchased on date not known, purchase price not reported Size: 4 graves; Location: Old Section Lot Record: No record of deed; Section: N; Lot 2, one half Grave 1 - Anna Dineen, 1954, age 88 Grave 2 - Ellen Lynch, 1899, age 19 Grave 3 - Catherine Dineen, 1925, age 54 Grave 4 - possibly Ella Lynch, 1899, age 9 Grave 5 - Grave 6 - Grave 7 - Grave 8 - Hope this helpd. I am sure I can dig out more info if you want.
