    3. If anyone comes across a Margaret Dungan who married Jonathan Tracy, I'd sure like to know more about her. Also, where in PA did the Dungan family come from? Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/GZB.2ACI/1008.6.1 Message Board Post: Thank you for your response. In 1870 Celia Dungan definitely was living with John and Susan Dungan, but she was their granddaughter, not their daughter. On the 1880 census, the relationship is clearly written. Also the 1883 book The History of Madison County lists the children of John Dungan who are still living at that time, and Celia is not listed as one of their children. I also found a newspaper announcement of Celia's wedding and it stated that she was the granddaughter of John and Susan Dungan. Her husband, Park J. Dew (not Drew), is my relative, part of a large clan of Dews from Perry County. What I was hoping to find out with a newspaper announcement of Celia's birth, was the actual names of her parents. I'm guessing that her father might be Jehiel (I've seen it spelled Jehial and Johile) Dungan who is mentioned in the 1883 book as being deceased. I also found a marriage record for Johile Dungan and Isabella W. Tuttle in Clark County dated October 17, 1860 ! which would be the right time for them to be Celia's parents. I have Celia's death certificate, but the father's name is not really legible although it starts with the letter "J" -- there is a notation on the certificate that the mother's name is not known. John Dungan had two other sons whose names started with "J" --Jesse and James. Jesse died in Tennessee and his Civil War pension form lists his mother, not a wife, and James was living in 1870 with his wife and children. Park and Celia's daughter Vera Dew was born in Madison County on February 7, 1889 and I know that she died young, but I don't know where they were living when she died and I don't know when she died. Park and Celia went to the Yukon in the Klondike gold rush in 1898 and there is no record of Vera being with them, so I'm assuming she died sometime between 1889 and 1898. If you come across any information about Jehiel Dungan, I would be greatly appreciative. John Dungan died March 6, 1888 (according to his tombstone in Oak Hill Cemetery), but perhaps an obituary would mention his children and grandchildren. I'm trying to think of alternate ways to find Celia's parents and would welcome any suggestions. Again, thank you for your response -- you Madison County folks have been very helpful. ______________________________Date: 12 Aug 2006 02:01:49 -0600 From: sugarcreek.2@netzero.com To: OHMADISO-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: Newspaper Lookup - Dungan This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. I should have noticed she was much younger than the rest of the family. The marriage book I have for Madison County has the name Drew in one place and Dew in another. so I have corrected that. thanks Does the wills of John or Susan Dungan mention their grandchildren? I found a civil war listing for a Jaheil Dungan on page 322 History of Clark County OH 1881. He is listed in the band 2nd brigade, 3rd Division 6th Army. later this is part of the 110thOVI. will keep looking for you. What is Celia's middle name? I have the inital F. I also show that Jesse and Jane Dungan had 8 children but I only have the 5 listed in the 1883 History of Madison County. I show that she remarried after Jesse died. I have she married Joseph Pancake 12 Feb 1824. thanks Pat ______________________________Date: 12 Aug 2006 11:40:13 -0600 From: jisteele@netscape.net To: OHMADISO-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: Newspaper Lookup - Dungan This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/GZB.2ACI/1008.6.1.1.1 Message Board Post: The death certificate shows Celia's middle name is Fay. I also found a mineral claim filed in Canada that shows Celia Fay so that's what I'm going with. However, there are some family trees posted online that list her as Celia Flora. I think the people using Flora have assumed that the Flora on the 1860 census and Celia F. on the 1870 census are one and the same person, but Flora Dungan died in 1861. Also on the 1870 census there is another child (looks like Norah) who is only 2. I wonder if she might be Celia's sister. By the 1880 census, Norah is gone and John W. appears as grandson. I also wonder who he might be. Thank you for the Jesse Dungan information and also the Civil War information -- every little tidbit makes these people come more alive. My whole quest into the Dungan's started because I have an old picture of a little girl and written on the back of it is "Park and Celia's little girl who died young." The main keeper of the Dew family tree did not know about the little girl, so this year we took a 2-day trip to Ohio to try to find out as much as we could. The photo was taken by a London, Ohio photographer so that's why we looked there and fortunately found her birth but not her death. We had just a few hours at the Ohio Historical Society library and looked for a newspaper announcement of their wedding to see if it would say where Park and Celia were planning to live so I would get an inkling of where to look for Vera's death. Unfortunately the wedding announcement did not have that info, but we found a small notice in 1891 that Mrs. Park Dew from Columbus was visiting with family. Then we just ran out of time and had to leave. There is a Family History Library in a nearby town and I've ordered the wi! ll records and also the guardianship records for that time period. I've also ordered the death records for Columbus. There's always hope that the next source of information with reveal that much needed little piece. Thanks again for your help.
