    3. I copied this article out the newspaper, and I thought others might enjoy reading it so I have posted it here. Article - The Madison Democrat, Wednesday, December 6, 1893 Saint Patrick's parish will hold a Xmas Festival in the Toland Opera House beginning Tuesday evening, Dec. 26th, and continuing for three nights. Elaborate preparations are being made to make this Holiday Festival on of the most interesting ever held in London. Father Cusack is much pleased with the evidences of generosity he has met on every hand from Catholics and non-Catholics alike, as all whom he has asked to contribute towards the Festival have responded with a right good will and generosity. Michael Riley has donated a magnificent watch, Elgin works, in a heavy gold case, which will be voted to one of six of the popular young men of the parish. Six young ladies, the Misses Mary Dineen, Katie Dwyer, Katie Gallagher, Maggie Madden, Mamie Ryan, and Minnie Lee, are in a contest for a diamond ring, and their friend are working hard for their candidates. Miss Lizzie Maley donated a beautiful doll, dressed as a bride, to be contested for by the following little girls: Nellie Slavin, Carrie Peard, Mary Murray, and Nellie Sullivan. A violin is contested for by the following boys: Eddie Brown, Johnny Peard, Frank Fraher, and Leo Stahl. Mr. Xerxas Farrar donated a ten dollar gold piece, which Katie Nolan is working hard to turn into hundreds of dollars. The combination ticket, sold for 25 cents to suit the hard times, has many articles and several gold pieces on it, all the donations of friends whose names are on the ticket. The children of St. Patrick's school will open the Festival with a drill and various musical and humorous selections. A supper will be give the second night; and the contests will be wound up the third night, and during the three evenings of the Festival several new and unique features will be introduced, not the least of which is a celebrated Gypsy Camp, presided over by the most noted Gypsy Queens. The committee in charge of the Festival are: Bid Redden, Mary Kelly, Anna Dineen, Katie Haley, Mollie Burns, Maggie Masterson, Martin Maley, Johnny Stahl, William Barrett, John Hackett, and Edmond Dwyer. Admission 10 cents. You are all invited. Steve Slattery
