Hello researchers on this list, I'm seeking what they did more than who is whom so I ask innocently the following question? In Madison County is the township of New Caanen. My third great grandparents, Nahum Amos and Serepta Howe (Norton) King arrived there in about 1810 give or take a year. They were married in the Lebanon Springs area of the King's District in Columbia County, New York in 1807. They went first to Genesis county. At that time Genesis County was all the land in New York west of the Genesis River. They returned to Clinton County where Serepta Howe Norton's maternal grandparents the Howe family were buried while they were there. Shows how close in contact the family remained over the years. They next appear in the pension file for the War of 1812 with the Ohio militia. When they left Clinton County New York they had two infant daughters, Saretta was the oldest and Lucretia was a new born. When they left Madison County they are next found in Franklin county. In Madison they had birthed a total of 14 more children. Three of those died not as infants in New Caanen. James Russel, Hannah and one other I heard but don't know that they lost these children to epidemics. My second great grandfather recalled to his granddaughter (My grand aunt) before 1900 that he was put to work in the fields by his father along side in his words colored folks who teased him of his smile and red hair. He said that he turned 8 the first year after leaving Madison county. My third great grandfather did not believe in slavery did not participate in it and neither did his father. He also believed in a partnership with his spouse. He hired his help in all shapes and sizes for the work that needed to be done. I assume that by now you know that I am searching for bits and pieces of the families life in Madison County, Ohio. What took the lives of the youngsters? Oh yes the family history URL has Hannah listed as the same Hannah born five generations earlier in the same line1629 dying in 1828. I would guess that this is a stretch. He says with a grin. Does anyone in Madison County connect to this family or his brother William who had two children? Besides Nahum and William in Madison County there are eight more siblings Horace, Hiram, Luther and Betsy (Elizabeth) are just four of them. Dan
