Have been looking for a John ROLAND who served in the Civil War in Co H. 17th OVI, and Josina Roland. Don't know if they were brother and sister, or spouses. A kind lady sent me info on a marriage in Madison co of Reuben Elliot and Josina Roland in 1866. I am trying to establish the relationship, if any, to Barbara Ellen CRIST of Fairfield co. She later married John E. Lane and they went to Shelby co Illinois. I discovered letters from the ROLANDS to Ellen CRIST in 1864 and 1865 in which they call her Cousin. It could be a courtesy title but I am inclined to doubt that theory. The letters were datelined NEWPORT. I was not aware that there was a Newport in Madison co, until I received the marriage record and checked the map. Any help on these Rolands would be helpful. They were apparently in NEWPORT at least 1864 to 1866. Thanks very much for help, suggestions or theories. Margaret Calvin

My grandparents were Mose & Florence. I remember once ,when I was a small child, hearing a discussion about the cemetery "at the back of the place" and how somehow some of the tombstones were used to build the old homestead house and it's sidewalk which, at that time, stood between the "new" house (built abt. 1971) and the barns just south of it. I don't know what ever happened to those stones. The sidewalk between the house and barn was replaced with flat stone from the quary. But I clearly remember that some of them had birth dates prior to 1773 (Jonathan Alder's birth year).
There is a complete photographic inventory of the Arbuckle Cemetery at http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~rocky/madison_cems/arbuckle/arbuckle.htm A few additional Madison County cemeteries have varying numbers of photos online: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~rocky/madison_cems/madisonindex.htm Happy hunting! There are burials of the following people in: Somerford Twp. Cemetery Rt. 56, Somerford Twp, Madison Co. OH Row 16, Wilson Section Harrington, George: 1843-1918 Harrington, Mary: w/o George, 1852-1896 Lot 40, Section 2 Harrington, Samuel: 1871-1957 Harrington, Hester: w/o Samuel, 1872-1950 Harrington, Harry: 1899-1904 Somerford Twp Cemetery is probably the closest cemetery to where Tradersville was located. Another cemetery Statler is nearby, but did not find any Harrington's. Arbuckle Cemetery is nearby, but I do not have a reading of that cemetery. It is a small family cemetery. ----- Original Message ----- From: <judie13@msn.com> To: <OHMADISO-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, January 07, 2006 11:21 AM Subject: [OHMadison] Re: Harrington > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/GZB.2ACI/974.1 > > Message Board Post: > > In the History of Madison County 1883, there is a reference to a George and Alonzo Harrington as privates in Company a organized at Jefferson and mustered into the Fortieth Regiment Sept. 19, 1861 at Camp Chase. I just wanted to let everyone know that there is a complete transcription of William T. Martin's 1858, HISTORY OF FRANKLIN COUNTY, OHIO online. The book itself was not indexed, and though there is a published index for researchers to use, I compiled an every name index specifically for the online version of the book. As with any endeavor of this kind I'm certain there are errors in the transcription. If you find any errors, please, let me know. If possible, give me the page number and/or the URL where the error occurs. I'll make the changes ASAP after receiving your message. Please let me know, too, if you find any broken links. Start at the very beginning by going to http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~rocky/franklin_1858/1858_history.htm (scroll down to "NEXT" link) OR go straight to the Table of Contents (http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~rocky/franklin_1858/1858_contents.htm) OR start with the Every Name Index (http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~rocky/franklin_1858/index.htm) Happy hunting! I should have mentioned in the below that this family moved to Madison County sometime. Johnathan Tracy was his father and he had a twin, William. Any info on any family members would be appreciated. From: Lois Heath <lois_heath@yahoo.com> To: Ohio Madison Co <OHMADISO-D@rootsweb.com> Subject: Phillip Tracy - Civil war veteran question I have finally gotten the civil war records on my ancestor, Phillip M. Tracy, which gave me his place of birth as Hocking Co, Ohio. In searching that county, I believe I have found his family of Johnathan F. Tracy. Here's what I am searching for now. His widow applied for and received a pension on his service. What I need to find now is a record of his death. I know he was mustered out of the army in 1864. I don't know when he died, but his widow was remarried by 1866 when she had another child. Would anyone have any ideas of where I should go next to find more about Phillip? Thanks for any help.
