Several of these were of the Thomas family, especially Elijah Thomas, son of Robert, the first known of this family in his branch in the country. I have attached a photo of Elijah's marker taken back in the 1981 when it was more legible. My parents visited and placed the top of the obelisk on, but did not have the materials to fix it. Whoever finally mended it - THANK YOU. - Mike Thomas

I am hoping to be able to identify the school. The plaque on the building says it was built in 1916. This could be a Madison County school or a school on the western edge of Franklin County. I am not sure which. My family was living in that general West Jefferson, Plain City, Hilliard area at the time. There was apparently a school on Amity Pike that my father attended. I don't know if that is in Franklin or Madison County. Does this sound as if it is in a general area where you had family at the time?

Is there a Fairfield Township in Madison or is it in Highland? The Gharrett yho mentioned? James Stout was very likely a brother to Jesse; he had a family, went down the river to New Orleans, was never heard from again. some of the children ended up in Illinois, two just west of DeWitt County, in Logan Co. Twin girls who are both buried in Illinois! For more, give me you own e-mail and I will exchange more info.

Wilson who married a Moore. The Wilson's also lived near Layfayette in Deercreek Twp. You might check with Greg. My family married into the Wilson's as did most of Madison county, My family settled Layfayette in 1832 so they were there when this happened. I also know there is a connection with the Houstons and Stouts. I believe there is a Stout cemetery in IN. I live in Madison and will check on newspaper items for you,and see if there is a death recorded, thanks Pat

We have an album of school newspaper articles at the London library and could add your scanned pictures. Are the students identified on the pictures. That could also help identify the school, thanks Pat

Others have searched for her; no luck. I imagine she was buried in a back-yard burial and may never be found. The family story that she was killed, possibly murdered, intrigues me. I doubt if deaths were recorded then, and I also doubt if there was a newspaper! Any other suggestions? I am in Illinois, so cannot do much as for going there! Jesse Stout, husband of Eliz. is buried only a few blocks from me, in a city cemetery here, buried with his 4th wife, but Eliz is my ancestress. I have tried to find some of the Moore kin but have received no answers. Marjorie

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/GZB.2ACI/1001.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Hi Marjorie I have been checking some of the Stout marriages in Madison County OH. James Stout m.Elizabeth Garrett 3 Nov 1814; George Stout m. Polly Garrett 15 Sept 1823. there is a Garrett Cemetery in Madison County Deercreek twp. but no Stout burial. The Garretts were moved to Deercreek Cemetery in Layfayette Oh. There are also Ervins buried in Garrett Cemetery. The first burial in Deercreek Twp Cemetery was in 1838. So your Elizabeth could have been buried there.John Moore buried there in 1839 age 77yrs, Could he be related to Elizabeth? Iam finding no Stout burials in the area. Wonder if there was a Stout Cemtery or if they could have been moved to one of the larger cemeteries In the county. I will have to check those records at the library. The family cemteries were read and if someone didn't have a tombstone there would be no recordthat they were buried there. Highland County is south west of Madison about an hours drive away. hope this helps Pat

I am sure she died in 1838, possibly a "backyard burial"-and since the family story is that she was killed, I am very interested. She was only 38, a daughter of William Moor or Moore, she married Jesse Stout in Highland Co. Ohio in 1821, probably in Fairfield Township. How close is that to Madison Co. and to Deer Creek? Their daughter, Lydia, my ancestress was born in 1834, and in 1839 Jesse married Rebecca Clemons, also of Madison Co. married there and in 1840 they came to Illinois. An older daughter, Sara, married William Erwin or Ervin in 1839, so these families would surely have all been buried in the same graveyard, don't you agree? anhy suggestions? Other than looking in Highland and way back then I cannot imagine them going to another township to bury her unless it was very close by. marjorie
