James Buckels b.1848 in Harpers Ferry, WV to Margaret Knox b. 1827 d. 1949 (Daughter of John Knox). She is said to have married a James/John Buckels/Buckles but no one has any record of it. She died shortly after James' birth and it is said that his father died in 1850. He was raised as the son of John Knox/Ann Piper until he was told at age 21 of his parents. John Knox family moved to OH in 1850. I question whether James' parents were married as father John kicked Margaret out of the house when he found out about the pregnancy. Her mother rescued her when she found Margaret with pneumonia, so the story goes. I have found a James Buckles in the 1850 census, no family listed, 36 years old. It is said that the father died at sea and I found an article saying a James Buckles was asleep on the pier and drowned. The search goes on. Colleen

Surnames: DOUGLASS, OGLESBY Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/GZB.2ACI/1013.1 Message Board Post: Someone on the mailing list where this message board is forwarded asked the following question: ---------------- You did not give a village/township for Alexander. Can you be more specific? There are Douglas, Kious, Stone and Johnson families in Pleasant Twp, esp, between Kiousville and Mt. Sterling. Ann Newsom ---------------------- I will answer here so that it is posted in both places. Alexander and Mahala Duglass [sic] were living in Pleasant Township for the 1850 census, in the same household as the Samuel Oglesby family. They were not a separate household in Madison County for the 1840 census, but they may have been living within someone else's household, or they may have been the Alexander Douglas family found in Jefferson Township, Fayette County, Ohio. By 1860 Alexander has died and Mahala is found again in Pleasant Township with one of her daughters. The rest of the children apparently sent to live/work with other families. Living next door to Mahala is Rosanna Douglass, whose relationship to Alexander is unknown. Does this help place the family, so that you might provide some additional information? Thanks

This was probably Alexander’s second marriage, since it appears there was one or perhaps two children born before the 1836 marriage date. Alexander apparently died before 1860, probably in Madison County. Mahala married secondly, Loyd F. Gatton on 24 Dec 1862 in Madison County. Alexander’s children appear to be: Mary E., b. ca. 1834; perhaps married (--??--) Kious Joseph, b. ca. 1836 Martha Jane, b. ca. 1837; m(1) Lancisco P. Stone; m(2) John Troud Rachel C., b. ca. 1842; m. John L. Nebergall Sarah Miranda, b. ca. 1845; m. George W. Johnson Two other possible children, although they are probably instead grandchildren from an unknown child: James and Clayton. Clayton was born about 1860, but the age of James is uncertain.

There was hardly any Orahood's in Madison Co. I did find 3 marriages for Orahood in the mid 1800's - Mary and John Dyton on Aug 13, 1863, Rebecca married Thomas Heflin on Mar 2, 1864, and John married Elizabeth Miller on Mar 15, 1866. I have a copy of Arthur Hann's obit which is Joseph's Father. It names Arthur's parents, Levi and Rebecca. And made copies of cemetery pages with Hann's. I have to pick up some deaths and marriages in the morning for Hann's I though you might like from the Court House. I'm going to look thru the 1883 history of Mad. Co for Hann and Orahood to see if theres anything there that might help in the morning. If you'd send me your address, I'll mail these to you tomorrow. I think you need to shift to Franklin Co for more on the Orahood line.
