Listers, I've been in contact with Dale Grimm, the Madison County Coordinator for the USGenWeb and ALHN, and he tells me that his server has been down since Thursday. I know that Dale has been working on the problem. The latest news is that the "go to" guy won't be at work until noon tomorrow and then it will take some time for the problems to be cleared up completely. Dale is hoping for things to be back in working order late tomorrow or Monday. Leona L. Just let me know what you're looking for. And: You can go to http://geonames.usgs.gov/pls/gnispublic/ --don't enter anything in "Feature Name," enter the state from the drop down menu, then enter the county name, and, in the drop down menu for "Feature Class" choose "Cemetery." It should bring back 59 cemeteries. Leona L. If my memory is correct, the story is in a folder labeled "History of Fayette County," or maybe "Early settlers of Fayette County." I remember reading the story when I was there doing some research about 4 years ago. I was interested in the story because we have a family story that our Allen family came to Fayette County about 1820 by way of a wagon train from Delaware or Maryland. Our John Allen was born 1808 in Delaware, but I have never been able to find any information about his parents or siblings. One of the ladies at the Fayette County Archives (The old Armory building) told me about the folder kept in the Genealogy section of the library. Good luck, and happy hunting. Harold in Florida
I went back through some old mailings and found this which has some names that might be of help in looking for that story of the Germanna migration.... >>There is a copy of a story in the records of the Fayette Co. ,Ohio Gen. Library in Washington C.H. It tells of a cavalcade of 700 people who came from Virginia to Ohio together. Among them were Bush, Peterson, Harper, and Coil(Coyle,Kail)(I think). >> >> >>
I am looking for some history on my great grandmother who passed away in a house fire. She resided in London, OH and it happened sometime in the late thirties, I believe. Her name was Gertrude Killeen and her husband owned a business there in London. Any information on the Killeen family that you can find would be greatly appreciated. I am especially looking for a Kent family that came into Pickaway County around 1832. They stated at various times that they were from the Richmond area but I have not found them on the 1820 or 1830 Census there. Karen Remember the days of old, consider the years of many generations. The colony was called the Germanna colony and it lists names on the website listed. http://www.germanna.org/index.cfm This is all that came in on the Clark-Champaign mailing list. As for as the "story" in the library in Washington CH, I asked and was told that it is in a "folder",. but the person who found it couldn't remember what/which folder only that it was the name of one of the people who came, and that would mean a German name. She couldn't tell me how many pages there were either, so I don't know if it is a thick or thin bundle of paper. Sorry that is all I can tell you. You might write the library and ask; someone there may know. Ann
