Does anyone have the Township census for New Canaan during the years 1810 to 1840. I am especially interested is seeing the earliest census and the last one to assure myself that they had arrived in New Canaan Township by this date and or had not departed for Franklin County by the latter date. We know from the records of my second great grandfather that he turned 8 years old in Franklin County but I am not sure if his family was still in Madison County for his 7th birthday. I have already found them on the 1850 through 1870 Census in Oregon. Dan

Hello McKenzie Market, That wouldn't be the one at Vida would it? I found your mention of the name Hallock very interesting. I have a Benjamin F. Waters who married a Martha Stroup in Madison County in 1852. They named a son Hallock Douglas Waters. I have not been able to determine where this name came from. Would you have more info on the Hallocks? Thanks for your time. There were censuses complied for 1860 and 1875 by Fr. Clark in the 1930's. These two censuses were compiled alphabetically by family and then numbered sequentially. Individuals were listed as a group by the beginning letter of the surname. The local London newspaper published these compiled censuses. I have many of the families, but am missing the following family numbers: For 1860 census I need: Nos. 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 22, 23, 29, 36, 37, 47, 49, 50, 51, 58, 59, 85, and the individuals with surname beginning in 'H'. For 1875 census I need: Nos. 10, 18, 21, 22, 29, 30, 31, 79, 122, 124, 128, 129, 160, 131, 132, 133, 134, 139, 178, 209, 210, 211, 212, 232, 233, 234, 236, 237, 238, and 246. If you have any of these families please respond! Steve Slattery

Oh Queries Forum Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Oh/Madison?read=580 Surname: Toops, McLaughlin ------------------------- Hi Darrell, My Barbara Toops is not Barbara Toops Recob. They are from the same family tree but I don't remember exactly how they were related. I have to find that tree on the Net again and put it in my genealogy program. I have subsequently found out a great deal about Barbara. She was born in Hampshire Co., VA (now W.VA) about 1796; married (1)Robert McLaughlin in Madison Co., OH in 1815 and (2) Henry Coleman in 1831 in Fayette Co., OH; and died in 1879 in IN. I'm descended from Robert McLaughlin. If you run across any McLaughlins from that time period in your wanderings, I'd sure like to hear about them. They're proving to be very elusive. Carol

I have noticed that Madison County does not seem to have a program for the descendants of early settlers. Most counties have an Early Settlers group. I will contact the Madison County Historical Society regarding the possibility of such a program for Madison County if anyone is interested in such a program. An early settler would most likely have had to be residing in Madison County by 1830 or around that date. Please let me know if anyone is interested. My earliest Madison County ancestor was Freedom Bigelow. He is on the 1820 Census in Darby Twp. Karen
