I was wondering if someone out there (who lives in the London area) would be willing to go to the Courthouse and locate and copy a death record for me. I am looking for the death record of STEEL DOUGLASS most likely died on or about October 13, 1905, in Paint Township Madison County. I have found some evidence that his real given first name may have been JEPTHAR or JEPTHER Steel DOUGLASS. Thanks for your help, I have been looking for this record for over 3 years. Bill

I'm searching for Shadrack MONTGOMERY, b 26 Jan 1791. According to his obit he was born in Chester Co, PA. Died 18 Oct 1871; Van Buren Twp., Shelby Co. Ohio. I know nothing of Shadrack's parents beyond that his mother remarried (don't know if in PA or OH). She married a gentleman named SPRINGER. Again no given name. Shadrack was living in OH prior to the War of 1812. He served several tours of duty in the war both in the Ohio militia and in the regular army (using the name of MONTGOMERY as well as SPRINGER). He was captured by the British at Detroit and was forced to march to Fort Niagara where he was later paroled. He has an extensive pension file which indicates that he married Isabella McCULLOUGH in Madison Co. OH on 07 Sept 1816. Does anyone have any knowledge of Shadrack's parents or siblings or confirmation that he was born in Chester Co. PA? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Harold Lefevre [email protected]

That Beers for Madison County is really great. I purchased it on a CD which has a bunch of other books. I kind of like to buy my own stuff in areas where I work a lot. This one is worth it because it has so much else and an every name index and it is fascinating to jsut sit here and read. It is on CD 11 published by Heritage Books, Inc. It is called the Historical and Genealogical Records of West Central Ohio. Heritage books has a tel number of 1-800-398-7709 I bought it from one of these on-line stores but I dont' remember which one now. It inclludes Beers, Madison Co and Beers from Warren Co and lots and lots of people started out in Warren and then moved north. It also has a bunch of books on Franklin Co. I don't remember what all because I haven't used them so much. People keep asking about this so thought I would share this info. I had to ask and ask and ask to find it. One poor man thought he would NEVER get rid of me but he did help me find it and I love it.

Posted on: Madison Co. Oh Queries Forum Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Oh/Madison?read=614 Surname: HEATH, WILLIAMS, GILLILAND ------------------------- My great great grandmother Heath's obit lists her children as Harry, Carl and Charles, all of Sedalia; William Heath of Columbus; Elihu Heath of Seattle, Washington; Mrs. Frank Thomas (Minnie) of South Solon (OH); and Mrs. Catherine Williams of Ranger Texas (this being my great grandmother). According to Ron Hunter, who provided most of my information on the Heath family, Harry was short for "Harrison" and he was born 24 Mar 1867 in Pickaway County, OH. William was born Dec. 1873. Garret C. may have been Carl or Charles, but I don't know for sure. In fact, it could just be naming coincidence that the other names are the same. Do you have dates for your people? Assuming these are the folks you're looking for, the father was Andrew Heath, b. Oct 1839, son of Elihu Heath (b. 29 Nov 1810 d. 1 Mar 1885) married 9 Dec 1834 to Elizabeth Gilliland (b. 11 Jun 1815 D. 17 Feb 1889). Mr. Hunter has additional information on this Gilliland line as he is descended from Elizabeth's sister, I believe. I haven't found anything concrete before Elihu, but did find some Heaths from New York and New Hampshire which migrated to Ohio about this time and they may be connected, but I can't verify it. The History of Madison County, published in 1915, and written by Chester E. Bryan gives a nice summary of Harry Heath's life in Madison County. It is written as if he is still living and working a farm in this area at that time. Perhaps this rules him out as your man. This book lists his birth as 24 Mar 1868 in Pickaway County, OH. Hope this helps! felicia
Re: > Where can a copy of Beer's History of Madison County be obtained? Both the 1883 Beers book and the 1915 Bryan book were reprinted by the Madison County Historical Society in the 1990s. I don't have a phone number, but the address is: Madison County Historical Society PO Box 124 London, Ohio 43140. I don't remember exactly what I paid for them, but I think they are in the $60-75 dollar range each. Sherry Wilush

I have a Henry Harrison Heath, Garret C. Heath and a William Heath I am trying to tie together and find parents for. I know Garret was born in OH from a later census....Thanks Eve
The 1883 Beers History of Madison County is available on CD-Rom through Heritage books at http://www.heritagebooks.com It's combined with a number of other West Central Ohio information. The cost of the CD is $60. I do not know if the Madison County Society has any other copies of the "real book" edition left. As far as I know, the 1915 History is not available on CD--yet.

The Columbus Metropolitan library has them as well, in much better shape and you can pop them on a copy machine with no problem. If you want to buy one, I have no idea. The copies I have seen were 1883 and 1915 (if my recollect is correct!) and obviously are not being printed anymore. There is also a fellow who will do lookups for you in the books.
