I am researching Henry JOHNSON who was born in Madison County, Ohio about 1814. He married Rose Ann CLOVER in 1845 in Franklin County, Ohio. Henry and family were living in West Jefferson, Jefferson Twp. Madison Co. in 1860. They were probably right there in 1850 also. They are not on the census in 1850 but it looks like that whole area was not enumerated in 1850. I am trying to find out who Henry's parents were. Is anyone else researching Johnsons from West Jefferson ?? I am just hoping that Henry was raised right there as well and had siblings. Would really like to hear from any JOHNSON researchers from Jefferson Twp. Thanks. Janis Foley [email protected]
Posted on: Madison Co. Oh Queries Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Oh/Madison/687 Surname: Flint, Johnson ------------------------- Dear Ms. Hubbard - I am currently researching my family name "Flint", and in the process learned that my great great aunt "Louisa Flint" married an Obediah Johnson. My aunt was born in 1825 in Beekmantown, NY. About 1833-34 her family moved to Madison Co. Ohio (Canaan Township)where my great grandfather "John Flint" was born. From many letters that she wrote to my great grandfather, I know that she was first married to Obediah Johnson and they had one child, a boy named Henry Johnson. I will have to look through my letters again to see if I can determine Henry's birth date or age. I also know that later she married a man named George Marshall and moved from Madison Co. Ohio to Ill. I have not been able to find out if Obediah died, left or if they divorced. No mention is made of their situation. I do know that "Little Henry" was taken by Johnson relatives to Missouri for quite a long time and Louisa had no knowledge of him which made her quite anxious. Eventually they brought him back, but there is no indication that he lived with her. She had several other children by George Marshall. I hope this helps you. If you would care to have additional information from me, I will review my letters at home and get back to you. I have provided my home E-mail address, since this message reached me at my work E-mail. I am in the slow but steady process of transcribing all fifty of the letters I have from my relatives between 1856 and 1907, and hope to make them available to all interested parties eventually. Please do let me know if this has helped in any way. I will look forward to hearing from you. We may be related if only by marriage! Best Regards and Happy Hunting, Liza
Good morning List(s), I was researching the history of autos and found this by accident, http://mel.lib.mi.us/michigan/MI-history.html - the following URLs were found on this page. Genealogical Death Indexing System, Michigan http://www.mdch.state.mi.us/PHA/OSR/gendis/index.htm - The current system contains information on 150,000 Michigan death records from 1867-1882. The Public Libraries of Saginaw maintains an index of over 125,000 obituaries from the Saginaw News dating back the 1800's. http://www.tricitynet.com/pls/obit.nsf Maybe these will help someone. Good luck! Jacquie (California)

Dear List, I'm looking for history and information about a machine repair (garage?) business called "BRIGGS Garage" or "MERCER'S Garage". I think my maternal grandfather, Harold Lee BISHOP b. 1900 in Massachusetts or Rhode Island, may have worked there sometime between 1922 to 1926. Birth certificates for 2 of his children say that his occupation is "garageman". According to the 1920 Census his prior occupation was as a traveling salesman for the Jewel Tea Company in Akron, Ohio. Harold Lee BISHOP is of Canadian Scotch-Irish descent. (Both of his parents were born in Canada; they did not become naturalized and both are buried in Summit County, Ohio.) A rare family photo of a young Harold Lee Bishop is posted here, http://members.fortunecity.com/researchtree1/bishop.html Any information would be gratefully appreciated. The following item appeared in _The Champaign Democrat_, St. Paris, Champaign County, Ohio, on Tuesday, 27 September 1921: St Paris Man Weds at 78 A widow of 62 An event of more than usual interest occurred last week at Plain City when Eli Pence, aged 78, retired farmer, of St. Paris, was united in marriage to Mrs. Ellen Walker, aged 62, of Plain City. The marriage ceremony was performed by Rev. Sprouce, Baptist minister of Plain City and the couple went to housekeeping in the bride's home in that place. Both have been married before and have families. Mr. Pence is one of the best known residents of St. Paris and Mrs. Pence is well known in Madison and Union counties. --- end article ------ I hope that someone can provide me with the name, at least, of Ellen Walker's husband. Eli Pence lived to be 99 years old and was the only survivor of the 45th Ohio Volunteer Infantry to attend its final reunion in 1933 and had prominently attended many if not all of the previous reunions. In searching for a reason why Eli wandered to Madison County to find his second wife, the thought has occurred to me that perhaps Mrs. Walker's husband had also been a member of the 45th OVI and that the two "youngsters" had met at one of the reunions some years prior to their marriage. If anyone has any information on Mrs. Walker / Mrs. Pence, I would appreciate hearing from you. Many thanks. Regards, Richard A. Hi all, I am a recent addition to this list. I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction for writing for copies of records, if that is possible? I am researching the Lewis family from London, Ohio. My Great grandfather, John Lewis, was born in 1852/3 in London, Ohio. I am looking to see if I can find his parents and if I can track down a marriage certificate for him and his wife, Carolyn Betina Wood, around 1884/5. Thanks for any help, William L.
