Please accept my apology for accidentally sending this list a copy of my message yesterday that was intended for a Board member of the Brownhelm Historical Association. Need to explain to all of you who may be confused and in the dark. On April 13th, the BHA will have a gala John Mercer Langston Historical Marker dinner & dedication. It is to be held at the new RED CLAY in Vermilion (that is the site of the former McGarvey's). Of course most of you know that John M. Langston was the 1st African-American attorney admitted to the Ohio Bar in 1854. He was elected clerk of Brownhelm Township in 1855. Elected clerk of Russia Twp. in 1856. >From that point oh was very active in Oberlin and in other states. He organized the National Equal Rights League in 1864, which was the forerunner of the NAACP. Many other accomplishments, too numerous to mention in this email. The Historical Marker will be permanently located at the historic Brownhelm School on North Ridge Rd., Vermilion. If this event interests you, contact Tracy, the Committee Chair, at 965-8888. Nancy M. Meyers, Lorain OH
