The "Ancestry Daily News" for Feb. 13th & 14th has several very nice short stories of how genealogy & romance were brought together quite unsuspectingly. My husband of nine years and this Grandmother "connected" at a monthly meeting of the Black River Genealogists. His Meyers line from Germany, came in 1846 to Montgomery Co. PA, then onto Lorain County in 1902; and my own direct Myers/Meyers line was in Herkimer Co. NY before 1782, then migrated to JoDaviess Co.IL in 1850. These two lines were not connected in any way. Hope some of you folks have a Valentine's Day story to share about your LC ancestors. Remember someone special to you. -- Nancy M. Meyers, Lorain OH
Hi Nancy, Mark and I met 25 years ago at a Valentines Dance at college. Although I can't say that we met due to Genealogy I must say that Genealogy has certainly enhanced our relationship. As we work together (when he has time) searching out cemeteries, passenger lists and other genealogy related items we spend so much time together that it certainly strengthens the bond between us. For Christmas this year I had found the passenger list for Casper Dute who is one of my Husbands great grandfathers. I had the passenger manifest and a photograph of Casper framed for him as a gift. He's taken it to every place he's gone to show it off. It now hangs in our dining room as a reminder of his heritage. (We have alot of that sort of stuff "hanging around"!) Although his retirement is still a few years away we are both looking forward to the opportunity to travel together in search of our ancestors together. We haven't found any of our ancestors connecting, but we have found them as he and I are, working side by side. In September we will celebrate 25 years of marriage together by renewing our vows in front of our friends and family. Happy Valentines Day everyone! Hi Nancy, I was moved by Tom Powell Valentine story, I thought I would tell my Valentine story. On Valentine day 2001,I had to call 911 to take my wife to the hospital. The EM Doc told me that he was glad that I had brought her in then, because in 2 hrs it would have been too late. She spent 10 days in the hospital,3 days in IC.That was my Valentine gift and we celabrated our 50th wedding anniversary on June 30.Yesterday was a special day for both of us. I hope that I do not get any feedback because this is not Genealogy related.
