    1. Re: [OHLORAIN] Negotiating Streets and Parking

    3. Downtown Elyria is all one way streets, so be careful. There is unmetered street parking, but it's at a premium. Don't park in a lot if you don't have to. I parked in one of those 2 hour lots, and wasn't ticketed, even though I was there for 3 hours, but it was an incredibly freezing day, on which few people were out. It seems that you have everything you need, with having the numbers ahead of time. If you name has alternate spellings, you should probably key those in also, and get additional numbers. If you get there and need to look up other numbers, they have computer files the same as you'd lookup on their site. It seems that the fee is less than 50cents per page (I was just there a month ago, but don't really remember the fee. They take checks with photo id, not credit cards, and of course cash is okay. The records are on microfilm. You go in with your numbers, and the ladies will show you where those films are kept and how to use the machine. Try to get the machine closest to the filing cabinets, it has a better lense attached. The ladies can also put on a different lens, which will bring you closer to one particular item, if you need it. I find it's more time-effective to make the copy, and then if you feel the need for enlarged text, to take it to a copy service, like kinkos. The copies are generally readable, if not ask the ladies for help. I have one document that no one can read or copy due to poor film quality, but that's the exception rather than the rule. I end up spending a lot of time there, when photocopying wills. They tend to mention other names in the area and family members, so I always end up doing additional research when there. Happy Hunting. Patricia Peg and Ron <rv64@lor.net> wrote: Just adding a little note from "experience"! Don't dare park for more than two hours unless they have changed the rules at that lot. Another friend and I went to the County Auditor's office and used that lot. When you pull in off Third St. there is a sign that says two hour parking (which can be unnoticed in the rush to get out of the traffic). When you do get in there, there are several parking places which face Middle Ave. They all say 4 hour parking. Well, we came out in exactly 2 hours and 20 mins, only to find that her new Trail Blazer had been towed, to the tune of $90. Watch the signs, you people. LOL "We are only doing out job, ma'am and cash only!"
