I did contact the Catholic Diocese for Lorain County, was going from Elyria's actually, and the whole area is covered by the Diocese in Cleveland. I don't know if that helps. You can find it pretty easily online, but I'll look it up too and see what I can come up with. Good luck. Gina Ashline ohlorain-request@rootsweb.com wrote: Today's Topics: 1. The ladies there will not do research, but if you have the Estate number and name of deceased, they will when they have the time, send you a copy of said record. They will not accept requests such as, John Smith was my uncle, can you give me information on his records, and will rightfully ask that one find a genealogist to do this work... That being said, the LC Probate maintains a website that will allow you to look up the number of the estate, and it will a number preceded by ES. You can also find other records on this site, which is www.loraincounty.com/Probate. Hope this helps. If you need any further help, feel free to write to me at pdz99@sbcglobal.net. Gina, Apparently, one of the daughters, Florence Schmidt, died January 14, 1914 and is buried at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain. There was a death certificate written I'm going to order, Vol. #1271, Cert.# 3793. Also ran across a William Smith, who died September 5, 1913 in Lorain who might be the father, Vol. 1177, cert. 53335. If age corresponds with 1900 census (he was born about March 1866), this is probably him. If I get lucky and get my grandfather's BIRTH record for August 17, 1889 (William Louis Smith), I will be able to confirm or disprove my suspicions..
