Dear List Subscribers, Having been involved for several years in First Families committee, and an OGS LC Chapter charter member, I believe that all who served on the FF committee always knew that plain copies of documents & vital records were acceptable proof for Lorain County.(certification was NOT necessary). That may not be the case in some other counties and certainly not for many lineage societies. LC has always wanted to make it as easy as possible. The Chapter wants to induct as many people as possible. There are some documents or photocopies that may have to be signed & verified by a clerk or a librarian to be sure that the copy was in fact from a Lorain County source. There should never be a fee for that service. Since some subscribers did not have a clear understanding on this matter, and I am glad that this subject was brought up and discussed. I love these lists just for that reason. A person can always request a copy of a app & the rules. It is only when it is filled in & submitted, that the application & membership fees must be included. Hopefully in the future, the app & rules can be posted on the Lorgen website. Hope those of you who are in driving distance of the oberlin library can make the meeting tonight. A very nice program, especially for new or non-member. FREE! FREE! There is a hour of free genealogy help in advance of the 7:00 meeting time, in the Ohio room there. -- Nancy M. Meyers, Lorain OH
