You'll want to check with the Soc. Sec. Administration to verify this, but I recall from my parents' deaths that it is either dependent minor children, and/or disabled dependent adult children. And of course, surviving spouse. Not sure who else could... but a "normal" adult child is not qualified to receive the benefit from a parent's death.
