I am reasoning that the executor/excutrix could apply for the one time SS death benefit, because that person is legally bound to see that final illness and any burial expenses are taken care of. You can get a copy of the final estate records, who inherited, who was paid what, etc. It is a public document. They are supposed to make a final estate report to the court within a year of the death but frequently that time is extended by merely applying for an extension. Often an attorney, acting as the executor, applies for an extension. Have had that personal experience. BTW, trust records are not public. -- Nancy M. Meyers, Lorain OH
