    3. Nance, That was one of the strangest things that I saw in Grafton during the cleanup -- pieces of straw driven, like nails, into the tree trunks. Shreds of curtain fabric draped on branches like someone's idea of a bad TP Party. Baby carriages in treetops. After that, I used to go into near-panic whenever there was a tornado siren. Living in hurricane-prone Florida has helped "numb" me a little, except a few years ago when we had 4 go through. Thankfully, all were near-misses for my family, but others didn't fare as well. It is good for us to share our memories. My mom remembered the tornado in the 20's, and shared with me how she and her siblings were almost some of the casualties -- they were either on their way or had just left the movie theater that was so heavily damaged. Mom and Dad are both deceased, so I'm grateful that they shared their experiences with me while they could. A lot of those things have gone into memory books for each of my three (grown) children. They aren't very interested in genealogy, but are curious about what their ancestors' lives were like. They can relate better to that. And - they'll have to put all of their books together one day to get the full picture, because each one tells a different part of the story!
