    3. LC Researchers, Wished you could have been there last Friday. The evening started with an old fashioned church supper at the historic Brighton Congregational Church. The meal was served in the social hall of the converted church basement. Saw many familiar faces there. With our appetites more than tummies satisfied, we were then directed up to the sanctuary for the program. This was NOT your average 30-40 minute program folks. The building was filled to capacity and the crowd was treated to a wonderful production that lasted 1 hour and 20 minutes. The program was entitled BRIGHTON: THE SPIRIT CONTINUES It was a very entertaining, educational and delightful overview of approximately 175 years of Brighton Township history, along with some bio bits of info on the BAIRD, GILLETTE, GOSS, GREENE, KINGSBURY, LOVELAND, STOCKING and other families. We were treated to period background music, slides and audio incorporated into a Power Point presentation. There was also some live period music on a piano, with a rinky-tink flavor and the famous Hugh MOSHER, a model for the Spirit of 76 painting by Archibald WILLARD, was playing the fife (actually was the local Tim Simonson). Volunteers wore period costumes, there were many photos and other displays were on exhibit. The audience also joined in on some old fashioned hymns. After the "production", we returned to the lower level of the building for dessert of home pies, of all sorts, ice cream, coffee, punch & juices. After dessert, it was time for all the uncut pies to be offered at auction, just like folks did in the times of your grandparents. Our own Bonnie Brennan did a great job of keeping that auction running, and trust me, there was hospitality a plenty. Proceeds of the evening went to the building fund for the Church. This entire event was conceived, written, produced, directed and narrated by a radiant and beaming Mrs. Cheryl EWELL HINES. She, naturally, is very proud of her Brighton Township roots. Between you, me and other genealogists, I was very impressed with the amount of research that Cheryl had to do to put this evening together. CONGRATULATIONS to Cheryl. Our Chapter Treasurer attended also and think he got to see some of his cousins from that area. BTW, here is a bit of trivia for you. Did you know that at one time, the largest ferret farm in the US was in Brighton Township? ------------------------------------------ Nancy M.
