Elyria, O., Feb. 7 -- The furnace in the new West Side public school building blew up with terrific force during the noon recess of the school. The northern wall of the main building was blown completely out. Fire immediately started and was only extinguished after much damage had been done. Had the explosion occurred 15 minutes later, when 200 children would have been in the building, a frightful loss of life would have occurred. The loss on the building will be about $7,000.
