I recently located Peter Peterson in Lorain County. He lived in the Westview area of Columbia Township, was born about 1837/1838 in Sweden, obtained a marriage license on 21 Sep 1867, and had a daughter named Hannah on 16 Feb 1873. Beyond this, I have not been able to locate a death record or cemetery location for him. I am most anxious to find out what city in Sweden he came from, as well as the names of his parents, so I am hoping that his actual marriage record and/or some church records and/or a death record will give the names of his parents and that city in Sweden. Are there any other records in Lorain County that might give this information or the year he arrived in Lorain County? Which cemeteries would a person living in Westview likely be buried in? Which churches would have been attended by people living in Westview and Columbia Township? Would these churches possibly have been in Berea? Does the local library have a collection of obituaries for this area? We do not know when he died, but believe it was before 1900. Your help will be most appreciated. Sincerely, Don Hampton - [email protected]
I don't know if there is any connection, but there was a Pet Pederson living in Elyria in the 1940's. He worked at the lace factory( Elyria Lace Co) Ken ----- Original Message ----- From: "Don & Marianne Hampton" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, June 09, 2005 4:41 PM Subject: [OHLORAIN] Peter Peterson >I recently located Peter Peterson in Lorain County. Ken, we are reasonably sure he did not have a son who lived into adulthood, but thanks for making us aware of this possibility. Hi Don, I don't have the answers you're looking for exactly, but a couple other pieces of information you may not have and a few suggestions. I used to live in Columbia Township and its right on the edge of Cuyahoga and Medina Counties. On the 1880 census, he is divorced, age 42, and living with his brother Charles Peterson, age 45, and two other men -- Edward Nelson age 22, and John Johnson age 21. They are all quarry men. The only quarry I know of around there was in Olmsted Falls on the old East River Rd. North, which is in Cuyahoga County at the intersection where Columbia Twp meets. So you may want to look for cemeteries in that area. Also, his daughter Hannah Clarabelle Peterson was married in Rockford, Illinois (the second largest settlement of Swedes in the U.S.) on Feb 11, 1892 to Karl Victor Berglund, and is buried at Rose City Cemetery in Portland, Oregon. Often parents live near their children in later years, so you may want to look in the Rockford, Illinois and/or Portland, Oregon areas also, although I believe he would have died before she went to Oregon. Hope something here is helpful. -Deb ----- Original Message ----- From: "Don & Marianne Hampton" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, June 09, 2005 7:41 PM Subject: [OHLORAIN] Peter Peterson >I recently located Peter Peterson in Lorain County.
