Dear Researcher, Some pieces of the THIELKE puzzle for you: Alfred C. THIELKE died at the age of 81 and was buried on May11, 1973 in Elmwood Cemetery. Lot 2031, map page 8, Lorain OH. He died of a stroke. His birthplace on the burial card is given as Hartford CT, and his residence at the time of death is given as 1311 Root Rd. Lorain. He had worked for the Great Lakes Towing Co. per the 1957, 1962, 1969 directories, & he was retired by 1973. In the mid 50's he and his wife Mildred lived at 235 E. Erie Ave. Lorain. Mildred J. THIELKE died at age 72 and was buried on Oct. 1, 1979 in Elmwood Cem. Her residence at time of death was given as Amherst. Her birth date & birthplace is listed as Locus Point OH June 1, 1907. (This is probably Locust Pt. Ottawa Co. OH) In the same Elmwood Cem. lot, there is buried a Patricia THIELKE,age 7, who died of appendicitis and was buried on Aug. 6, 1936. In 1936, the family lived at 307 Idaho Ave. Lorain at thwe time of her death. Her birthplace is typed as Cleveland OH. Please note that there were multiple typists making various errors at the Elmwood cemtery office thru the years. Please look at the 1930 census for Vermillion in Erie Co. OH. You will find them indexed under the spelling of THIELLSE. Little 9 mo. old Patty is listed with them. Albert is working as a fisherman and they had been wed for only a couple of years. Mildred's maiden name can most likely be found on her death certificate & perhaps on the death certifcate of her daughter. The 1930 census gives Albert's birthplace as WI. The lives and stories of all the lake's fishermen, ship captains & crew are interesting to us since we live up at the Lake Erie and can view it even as we have our meals. Several of my husband's family made their living from the lake and one brother lost his life in 1944 when two ships collided in the fog. Keep us posted on your quest. Nancy M.
