I live in Chester County, within five miles of Montgomery County, and I know there were Shupe families in Montgomery County. Barbara >> Jacob Shupe was born in Bucks County. It seems as if the family moved to Westmoreland County between 1786 and 1789. The best and quickest way to find out more about the famous Amherst Township settler is to excess the research of Janet Warter from California at http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/ type in Jacob Shupe, Janet's work is listed under jkw2. Jacob from Lorain County was born 1778. Janet was researching the Shupe line from a sibling of Jacob. She felt that Jacob had died young because she could not find any other information about him other then his birth. It was when our research crossed paths that I was able to find out so much more about both Jacob Shupe and his wife Catherina Margaretha Keister or Catherine as she was known in Lorain County. Janet has done some excellant work on this branch. A variation of the spelling of Shupe in the german church records for Westmoreland County is Schaub. This was actually how I was able to connect the family because of birth record of Margaretha Catherina Schaub (Margaret Shupe) who married Stephen Gunn from Black River Township. For information on the Keister lines try http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~holder/index.html or http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~holder/Table8Keister.html With me being from Michigan, maybe you could tell me if Westmoreland County is close to Chester or Montgomery Counties.
