Hi again Sarah, It would make my life much easier if James Samuel PIERCE had brothers or sisters. Unfortunately, as far as I know, he was an only child. Since you have been so kind to share your thoughts and suggestions with me so far, I will go out on a limb here and tell you the rest of the story in the hope you might come up with something I haven't. What I know about James Samuel PIERCE: Born: 24 March 1872 in Elyria, Lorain County, OH. Mother: Ann GILMORE/GILMOUR---Born in Scotland to John and Ann/Anne (CHALMERS) GILMORE/GILMOUR Lived: With his mother and/or grandfather in Waukesha County, WI and attended school there Married: Helen/Nellie Storke/Stroke Gowans in the Town of Lisbon, Waukesha County, WI on the 24 Feb. 1897 Children: 5 boys--2 died, one at birth and the other when he was young Moved: 1905 to Taylor County, WI Died: 10 August 1958 in Taylor County, WI Other information (to be confirmed) about James Samuel PIERCE: Father: *last name PIERCE *lived in Chicago, IL and owned a saddle shop, harness shop, or blacksmith shop *traveled to Peshtigo, WI to do logging *married Ann GILMORE/GILMOUR sometime between 1870 and 1871? *died in either the Chicago fire or Peshtigo fire in October 1871 Mother: * Lived and grew up in Waukesha County, WI * Gave birth in OH, and lived there? until she returned to Waukesha County WI in 1875 Do you know where I could access the OH census index and OH census or do you know the LDS fiche/film numbers? Thanks again for you input! Lorrie Schneck@charter.net ----- Reply ----- Tuesday, December 18, 2001 6:04 PM Strange about "Elyna". I've seen that in census indexes, and just figured it was transcribing mistake. If the funeral book has names of attendees, then I would certainly try to trace some of those people--not sure how much you know about him, like brothers and sisters. If you know them, then go after THIER death certificates, and one may say the father, and even the father's place of birth, etc. assuming the certificate would be from maybe 1909 or later. Sarah ------Message------ 12/18/2001 6:26:39 PM Eastern Standard Time It states he was born in "Elyna, OH". When I looked for the name "Elyna", I came up with nothing. I decided that the "n" should have been an "ri". I also have the memorial book from his funeral which states his place of birth as "Elyria".
