I have been working hard on my genealogy for Lorain County Nicholas HENGEN and wife Sophia SCHNITZLER (both german born) where in the US in the 1850;s. According to Sophia's obit she was a long time resident (65 yrs) of Amherst, however they seemed to ride a circuit between, OH, IN and MI, I suspect family were in those states. Sophia had at least one brother in the US with her, George SCHNITZLER/SNITZLER, he lived in Avon. (think he had something like 11 children) Nick and Sophia's children Elizabeth m. James FLOOD and secondly Grantham GRUNDY Frances m. John H. PLATO ....i know they lived in Amherst, I was told he was wealthy and had something to so with like a coal company. J.M. m. Constantina EHRENSBERGER Anna m. ? KRUGER (lived in Seattle, WA) Fred m. Augusta JOHNSON (she was swedish, they became Mormons and moved to UTAH) Mary...no clue what happened to her but think she died before 1910. JM's Daughter Mable married a William WENZEL, they were in the Amherst area. Many of these people and their families are buried at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Amherst Any of these names sound familiar to any of you???? Also on a side note anyone researching Douglas PROUDFOOT and his wife Ella SAYE family?? I know of at least 3 John Plato's from the Amherst area -- the grandfather, son, and grandson, although I have not heard of any wife named Frances. The Plato family also had a family clothing store for several generations in Amherst, and Amherst Village was at one time called Plato (also The Corners, Amherstville, and North Amherst). ----- Original Message ----- From: "L.R." <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, December 14, 2004 2:04 AM Subject: [OHLORAIN] My surnames, HENGEN, PLATO, GRUNDY, SCHNITLZER, WENZEL > I have been working hard on my genealogy for Lorain County > > Nicholas HENGEN and wife Sophia SCHNITZLER (both german born) where in the US in > the 1850;s.
