    3. Hi Bob, I have some members of this family and their ancestors in my family tree. Hopefully, I can explain what I have clearly, since it is sort of confusing. Deb B. Frank William Aiken born 1858 in Michigan married Dora Russell, as you know. Dora Russell was born in Michigan and was a domestic servant at the age of 13 in the home of William and Mina Tick in Caledonia Twp, Michigan. They had children Claude F. and Dorothy E.. Claude was born about Aug 1889 in Ohio and married Elvira King from Missouri, daughter of Adolph King (b:~1869 in Illinois), and the family is on the 1920 census in St. Louis, Missouri. Elvira's siblings included Amy, Erma, Adolph, and Eugene. Dorothy was born ~1884 in Black River/Lorain, Ohio and married Samuel Carr (b: 1881 Illinois, druggist, lived St. Louis also in 1920) and had a son Lloyd E. born 1907 in Missouri. I can't confirm this, but I believe in 1900 at age 10, that Claude lived with his cousin (Thomas Robeson, wife Louise and 2-yr-old daughter Rosa Lee) in Ashley Twp, Independence, Arkansas and was listed as a farm laborer, although it listed him as born Missouri -- possibly his father had died already??? Frank William Aiken was the son of Henry Edwin "Ed" Aiken (my great grandparents corresponded with him frequently as he second married our family -- the Schmink's, and I have postcards that indicate that he went by "Ed" or "H. Ed") and Ann E. (Ed's first wife). Ed was born Jul 23, 1836 in Amherst, OH and lived at 148 Aiken Street. He died Dec 25, 1931 when he was living on Jackson Street by the cemetery, and was buried at Cleveland Street Cemetery in Amherst with his second wife. He had a grove of peach trees. His first wife Ann was born in 1839 in Ohio. She died shortly after 1880, but I'm unsure of the date, and Ed remarried to Elizabeth Ann "Lizzie" Schmink (another Ann, but she didn't go by Ann usually. This was also her second marriage. She first married Frederick H. Leuszler). (Ed and Lizzie are on the 1900 Amherst census with his last name spelled Eikin) I have a picture of the Aiken family in front of their house at that time -- the parents Ed and his second wife Lizzie, and a young woman and young man, possibly William and Dora. His second wife, Lizzie Schmink was born Dec 11, 1854 and died Oct 8, 1923 of chronic valvular heart disease. There were no children of this second marriage. Henry Edwin Aiken's parents were Irad Isaac O. Aiken (Sep 4, 1792 - Jun 27, 1879), a farmer, and Indiana Brainard (went by "Indi" or "Inda", Dec 30, 1799 - 1891, daughter of Ozias Brainard (1771-1858) and Mary Strong (1776-1864)). They were both born in Middle Haddam, Middlesex, Connecticut and died in Amherst, Ohio. They were married Dec 1, 1817 in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, and lived in Brooklyn, Ohio on the west side of Cleveland before moving to Black River/Lorain where he owned land in 1857, and then moving on to Amherst. They are both buried at Cleveland Street Cemetery in Amherst. (I have more data on the Brainard and Strong families if needed) Irad and Indiana had the following children besides Henry Edward Aiken (8 children altogether): 2. William Henry "Henry" (b: Nov 1821 in Ohio and died 1907 Black River, OH, buried Elmwood Cemetery, married Hannah Porter (b: Nov 1824 Massachusetts and died 1907) in 1844, had 2 children: - Irad O./"Ira D." on census (b:Apr 1847 in Iowa and died Lorain, Ohio, married Rosa F. Case (b:Jan 1848), had a son David H. who was an attorney (b: May 6 1873 in Black River, OH - Apr 27, 1935) in Lorain Ohio, married Rubie (b:1872-1910) buried Elmwood Cemetery) - Harriett "Hattie" (b: Sep 1849 in Ohio and married G.D. Seslie (b:Jan 1842 Ohio) and had a daughter Ulyssa) 3. Charles S. Aiken (b: 1819 in Ohio and died1893, married Lucy Holmes in 1846, and had daughter Genevia ~1846) 4. Laura Aiken who married Clark Wheelan. 5. Marietta Betsy Aiken (b: 1831-1911 and married E.C. Foster in 1847) 6. Noah Aiken (b:1834 in Ohio, farmer, was in Caledonia Twp, Shiawasee, Mic higan in 1870 and 1910, married Harriett (b:1846 in Ohio), and had 3 children: - Florence (b: ~1864 in Ohio) - George (b: ~ 1865 in Michigan) - India (b: ~ 1867 in Michigan) 7. Unknown child who died young. 8. Unknown child who died young. Irad O. Aiken's parents were George William Aiken (b: 1773 in Newburg, Cuyahoga Cty, Ohio and died Brooklyn Twp, Cuyahoga Cty, Ohio) and Tamzin Higgins (b: Dec 1, 1768 in Chatham, Middlesex, Connecticut) They were married July 8, 1790 and had 7 children. Besides Irad, their other children were: 2. William (b:1801) 3. Cyril (b:1791) 4. Jerad 5. Julia (b: Mar 2, 1796 in Newburg, Ohio and died Jan 30, 1832) 6. Lury (not sure if male or female) 7. Caroline Tamzin Higgins's parents were Moses Higgins (b: 1742 in Eastham, Barnstable, Mass.and died Feb 12, 1818) and Dorcas Brainard (b: Feb 16, 1746 in Haddam, Middlesex, Connecticut and died in June of 1829). They were married on Dec 10, 1767. (I have more on the Higgins and Brainard families if needed) George William Aiken's father was George Aiken born Connecticut, and George Aiken's father was Henry Aiken. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bob Aiken" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, January 02, 2005 5:06 PM Subject: [OHLORAIN] Aiken, Akins, Russell 1800-1920 > Hi My line goes through Claude F Aiken (DOB about 1885-1896), his parents Wm H. Aiken and Dora Russell. I haven't been able to find direct evidence of his birth in the County records. His Sister Dorothy was born in Black River in 1884 and Wm H. and Dora lived in Amherst in 1885. Claude always listed his birthplace as "Lorain, OH". I haven't found any record of Claude until his 1914 Marriage license when he lived in Chicago (Claude, Dora and Dorothy all ended up in St. Louis). Any information on these folks would be greatly appreciated > > I would like to prove or disprove a theory based on census data that 1 year old Wm H "Akins" living in Plato/Amherst, Son of Henry and Ann E.(1860 census), moved to Corunna, Shiawassee, MI (1870 census data, Henry's name now listed as Henry E. Aiken). Then in 1880 the family moved back to Lorain County. Wm H. is living separately in N Amherst (age 23), while father Henry and family is now listed as Edward and also living in N Amherst. Again, information on these folks would be greatly appreciated, especially what church they belonged to so I could look at those records. > Thank you, Bob Aiken [email protected] > > . > > > > > --------------------------------- > Do you Yahoo!? > All your favorites on one personal page - Try My Yahoo! > > > ==== OHLORAIN Mailing List ==== > Visit the Lorain County Genealogy page > http://www.centurytel.net/lorgen > > >
