Hi Richard, I have a little information on Anna, but mostly on the rest of the family -- not sure what happened to her. Deb B. Charles Rice Sage was a clergyman who was born Oct 5 1822, married in 1848, moved to Knox Cty, IL in 1849, and died about 1850. He married Martha Alvira Twitchell who was born Mar 1, 1827 in Brimfield, Portage Cty, OH (daughter of John Twitchell and Polly Eager) They are on the 1850 Illinois census with their daughter Annah, age 1, shortly before he died. Charles Rice Sage had 14 siblings: Sylvester, Rodney, Warren, Luther, Sidney, Seymour, Anny, Henry, Andrew, Marcus, Eliza, Harriett, Hattie, and Julia Martha then married Charles Osborn in about 1855, who had also been previously married (to a Julia), and they lived in Wea Twp, Miami Cty, Kansas. Charles was born about 1817 in Connecticut. Julia is buried at Restland Cemetery in Brimfield, Ohio among many other Osborns and Twitchells. Charles Osborn and Martha are on the 1870 census in Miami County, Kansas: Charles Osborn, age 53, born CT Martha A., age 43, born OH Charles W., age 21, born OH (son from Charles's first marriage) George W, age 15 (son from Charles's first marriage) Ella M., age 9, born ~1860 in Kansas Mattie and Minnie, twin daughters, age 3 Martha died Mar 29, 1919 in Spring Hill, Johnson Cty, Kansas Anna Sage may have lived, but I have not been able to find her on the 1860 census when she would have been about 11 years old. She may have been 21 and married on the 1870 census, but have not been able to find her there either. I did find a record of an Anne/Anna Sage (b~1849 so correct date) who married a James Rouse (b:~1846) of Illinois -- haven't been able to substantiate, but this is a good possibility. Charles Rice Sage was the son of Charles Rice Sage Sr. (b:Oct 18 1802 in NY - d: Aug 24 1877 in Huntington, LorainCty, Oh) and Anna Rice (his first wife, b:Aug 29 1803 in Wardsboro, Windham, Vt - d: Feb 27, 1869 in Huntington Twp, Lorain Cty, OH). They were married in Sullivan, Medina Cty, Ohio on Dec 2 1821 or Feb 5 1822 (have found both dates and have not confirmed which is correct). I believe Charles may have had a second wife named Betsey. Anna died in 1869 and on the 1870 LaGrange Twp, Lorain Cty, OH census there was a Charles R. Sage with the correct birth date and a wife Betsey Bryant, age 63 b: NY. Charles Rice Sage Sr. had 11 siblings: Louisa/Lovesia, Sabrina, Joseph, Mary "Polly", Isaac, Lucetta, Alonzo, Alzina, Alonzo (one died I believe), Julia, and Jackson. Anna Rice's parents were Thomas Nichols Rice (1779 Mass-1857 Sullivan, Ashland, OH, Old Rice Cemetery) and Lucindia Parmelee (1780 CT-1862 Sullivan, Ashland, OH, Old Rice Cemetery). They married on Dec 11, 1800 in Vermont. Charles R. Sage Sr.'s parents were Isaac Sage (b:1775 in Berlin, CT - d:Nov 16 1846 in Ohio) and Polly Rice (b: Nov 9, 1778 Vt-d: Jun 14 1872). Isaac was the son of Solomon Sage and Lois Wilcox. At Old Huntington Cemetery next to the Methodist Church on the east side of Rt. 58 north of SR162 in Huntington are buried: C.R. Sage (Charles R. Sage Sr.) Oct 18 1802-Aug 24 1877 Anna Sage, wife of Charles, Aug 29 1803-Feb 27, 1869 On the 1860 Huntington Twp Census in Ohio: Charles Sage Sr. age 58 Ann, wife, age 57 Henry, son, age 21 Andrew, son, age 20 Marcus, son, age 18 Harriett, dau, age 16 Julia, dau, age 12 Living nearby in Huntington also in 1860 are sons (brothers of Charles Rice Sage Jr): Seymour Sage (28) married Harriett (25) and had daughters Elizabeth (6) and Evelyn (3) Sylvester Sage (26) married Mary (26) and had daughter Sylvena (1) Sidney Sage (31) married Louisa (26) and had daughters Flora (5) and Estella (4) Luther Sage (33) married Mary (27) and had son Frank (5) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Marilyn & Richard" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, January 10, 2005 2:51 PM Subject: [OHLORAIN] Sage Family > Hi > > looking for information about Anna Sage born 1849 in Lorain Co.
