Steel Mill Employee's aid in 1924 . Lots of original reports, telegrams and correspondence from The National Tube Co. covering years 1924-1926 were recently donated to the Black River Historical Society. I was so excited to find names of ordinary working men listed. The National Tube Co., with headquarters in Pittsburgh PA, was asked in 1924 by Lorain's Mayor to help their employees in the Lorain area who had sustained losses due to the tornado. These pages of lists contain names of over four hundred men who filed loss claims along with their street addresses. An added plus for researchers, in many cases, the occupation title and number of year employed by the National Tube Company. is given. Their claim amounts are listed and the amount of recommended percentage of financial relief is also listed. This effort was coordinated in part by the Red Cross. Some claims were denied. Until January 31st, I will be happy to look for your steel mill ancestor. Can do this only if you PLEASE include a first & last name. Boy, the mail is really messed up. I sent three messages a couple of hours ago. Two showed up right away....the other is still missing. I've been getting answers hours before the questions. We all need to leave just a little of the original message at the bottom of our reply. I'm usually sitting here with a "what????" expression when I read the mail. sandi.....who is sure Sydney is having the same problem ----- Original Message ----- From: "NM Meyers" <nmmeyers@centurytel.net> To: <OHLORAIN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, January 25, 2002 3:16 PM Subject: [OHLORAIN] Steel Mill Employee's financial aid > Steel Mill Employee's aid in 1924.. > Lots of original reports, telegrams and correspondence from The National > Tube Co. covering years 1924-1926 were recently donated to the Black > River Historical Society. > I was so excited to find names of ordinary working men listed. > The National Tube Co., with headquarters in Pittsburgh PA, was asked in > 1924 by Lorain's Mayor to help their employees in the Lorain area who > had sustained losses due to the tornado. > These pages of lists contain names of over four hundred men who filed > loss claims along with their street addresses.
