    1. Melin Farm, Elyria 1923
    2. Hello list, I have this article listing the place of death of the first burial in Elyria Cemetery. Would anyone happen to know off hand where it was located? Maureen Elyria Chronicle Telegram June 12, 1923 FIRST BURIAL HERE 100 YEARS AGO "Fred Dachtler, veteran retired blacksmith, calls attention to the fact that the first burial in Elyria Cemetery was made 100 years ago. Fred states that William Turner, a pioneer and his next door neighbor at that time, told him about the burial saying that he attended it. The man who died was Nathan Porter, death taking place on what is now called the Melin Farm north of town in 1822. The body was buried on the farm and in the spring of 1823(?) it was taken up and placed in the old Elyria Cemetery which had been designated as the burial spot for the village. A stone marks his resting place, giving his name and date of death."

    3. Hi Maureen, This link was posted a while back. An Eagle Scout mapped out Ridgelawn Cemetery. He includes the following information in his notes: http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/oh/lorain/cemeteries/ridgelawn/part35.txt "Ridgelawn Cemetery On the west side of Gulf Road, between Ridge Street and Columbus Street, this cemetery includes what was earlier referred to as the Old Elyria cemetery. Burials go back as far as 1817, and possibly earlier. Within the cemetery are two Monuments, a large Mausoleum, and one Congressional Medal of Honor recipient." This page has Nathan Porter and other Porters listed, but he claims there are older burials to 1817 or earlier. http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/oh/lorain/cemeteries/ridgelawn/part26.txt PORTER, Nathaniel R-44-14 Jun13,1822* aged 46 years -Deb ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, July 21, 2005 3:51 PM Subject: [OHLORAIN] Melin Farm, Elyria 1923 > Hello list, > > I have this article listing the place of death of the first burial in > Elyria Cemetery.
