    3. Dear jean, Lorain Co. Czechs's were quickly assimilated into the American culture, beause their numbers were small & so they did not establish strong institutions of their own. They also split religiously into two antagonistic groups....the Catholics & the free thinkers. Most stayed with the latter group. The remaining Catholic Czechs merely joined with established Catholic churches in the area. There was no one single church to unify the Czech descendants. Some ideas to consider: 1- If you look at the Czech areas of the city, in the time frame you are interested in, you can cross reference the address within a county or city directory and find the nearest Catholic church. It might be a reasonable starting point if you have no other clues. 2- check where their in-laws or Czech co-workers attended for worship services. 3- marriage certificates or newsaper announcements of marriages often give the name of the clergy person who performed the cerermony. Then you can easily check the church affliation of the presiding clergyman. There was a Czech society, the Sokol Hall in 1908, located at 2402 Kelly Place. Nancy M.
