TWO SPECIAL EVENTS AND AN INVITATION On Saturday July 16 at the Akron-Summit County Public Library, 60 S. High Street, Akron, OH there will be two events to which the public is invited. At 10 a.m. anyone interested in learning more about the Board for Certification of Genealogists and the certification process is welcome to come to this Q and A conducted by Elissa Scalise Powell, CGRS. The exact requirements for the process will be presented along with an open discussion. Other topics concerning professional genealogists may be discussed in our time together including marketing yourself, client reports, and professional education opportunities. "Rubik's CubeR Genealogy: A New Twist on Your Old Data" will be presented by Elissa Scalise Powell, CGRS. Twisting your data through the three dimensions of source, geography and chronology lets you perceive holes and discrepancies, and allows you to see further clues and conclusions you may have missed before. Some of the items to be discussed are: timelines, genograms, lineage society applications, land platting, and writing the family narrative. First Families of Western Pennsylvania lineage program will also be discussed with the membership requirements. For more information please contact Donna Wurm [email protected] NORTH HILLS GENEALOGISTS (OF PITTSBURGH) BUS TRIP TO WASHINGTON, DC You and your friends and relatives are cordially invited to join the North Hills Genealogists on their bus trip to Washington, DC Sunday September 25 through Thursday September 29. Everyone is welcome to come and with the open schedule you don't have to do research all four days. Our bus will pick us up in Cranberry Twp. at the confluence of I-76 (the turnpike), I-79, and Rt. 19. Free parking is available at the pick-up site. A buffet dinner is provided on our arrival Sunday evening with two orientation presentations afterward. We will have a librarian from the Library of Congress and a DAR member talk about their respective libraries. The hotel is within walking distance of the National Archives (1.5 blocks) and not far from the DAR library. The Library of Congress is about 1 mile away. The metro stop is about 1 block from the hotel. If you share with one to three friends in the room (all individual beds) you can go for the entire four days, the bus, and one meal for between $205 to $295! (Single rates also available.)
