What year was the Erie Cannel Completed ? My Grandfather told me that the Original Immigrants who came in 1832 traveled from Buffalo to Cleveland on a flat Boat. If the cannel was in use I am sure they would have used it.Ken
Hi Ken I believe your village is Htschenhausen in Rheinland-Pfalz Bavaria . I'm sure Rootsweb has a mailing list for that area. It would be helpful if you posted the timeframe of immigration. Depending on the timeframe, they prob arrived in NYC, traveled to Buffalo and took the Erie Canal to Cleveland. Meanwhile, I've found that the Salt Lake Library has both Civil and Church (Catholic) records available for your village. . I've never read German Civil Records so you're on you own there. Hope this Helps, Shirley in San Diego Salt Lake Records are at http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/fhlcatalog/supermainframeset.asp? display=localitydetails&subject=32094&subject_disp=Germany%2C+Bayern%2C+H %C3%BCtschenhausen&columns=*,0,0 Description of the Village: Htschenhausen Germany, Rheinland-Pfalz Latitude 49.4167 Longitude 7.4833 Altitude (feet) 748 Lat (DMS) 49 25' 0N Long (DMS) 7 28' 60E Altitude (meters) 227 Time zone (est) UTC+1(+2DT) Approximate population for 7 km radius from this point: 16064 On Tue, 16 Jan 2007 07:49:20 -0800 "Ken" <kennethgooden@cox.net> writes: > I have been trying to find the location in Germany where Philip came > from for years. I have been trying to find the location in Germany where Philip came from for years. I think I know know. A distant cousin gave me the name of a town called Hitchdnhousen in Reim Bayen. I finely found a town Huetschenhousen near the Bavarian boarder on the Google map just west of Holmberg on the route 6 and 50. I am certain that is the town. Now If I could just find the name of the ship and the port it came in on. I know they came from Buffalo on Leek Erie to Cleveland. Ken

The Computer Assisted Genealogy Group has an interesting meeting coming up. If you are anywhere in the Cleveland area, try to attend. It is at the Fairview Park Regional Library. Doors open at 9:30. After the program at 11:00 the group breaks into Genealogy program sessions: Brother's Keeper, Family Tree Maker, PAF/Ancestral Quest, or the Master Genealogist for an hour. http://www.rootsweb.com/ohcagg/index.html -------- Original Message -------- Subject: [OHCAGG] CAGG Meeting Jan. 20 Date: Mon, 15 Jan 2007 01:29:03 GMT From: wefrank@juno.com <wefrank@juno.com> Reply-To: ohcagg@rootsweb.com To: OHCAGG-L@rootsweb.com Here is a reminder of the CAGG program coming on Saturday Jan. 20. Hope to see you all there. Bill Frank Morning: "Photo Restoration and Photo Retouching" by Mike Volker Mike will take old photos and bring them back to life, then take a restored photo and begin to retouch fading, spots, mildew, etc., remove a pole coming out of a woman's head and add another tree to the scene. He will show a web site revealing the work that an author's students have performed after reading her book. Mike is very expert in retouching and this will be a very exciting program with many genealogical applications. Mike's demonstrations will be in Photoshop 7 but the principles applied will be available in the popular programs, Photoshop Elements and Paint Shop Pro, so it will be simplified for members owning those programs. Afternoon: "More Retouching" Mike will continue the retouching process, demonstrating on a color photograph of an older female relative, removing wrinkles, melanoma scars and "old-age" spots. He will also show methods of improving images of old documents. -- Sue Strick, Lorain County Coordinator for OHGenWeb Lorain County Genealogy Page, http://home.centurytel.net/lorgen/ L.C. Ken, My father was four years old and staying with his grandparents when this tornado hit. He remembers the glass on the floor, from the windows breaking and the garage was taken, never to be seen again. He and his two brothers crawled under the buffet in the dining room. Patricia, Minnie, who was born in MI, lived in Elyria, is buried in Elmwood. However I do not have any data of her having died in Elyria. Perhaps she died someplace else within the county. You should be able to try for that at the LC Bd of Health easily. She had moved to 506 Lodi St. Elyria after her husband died. Nancy M.
