I didn't know there was an ohcuyahoga site -- thanks for the information -- my grandparents and mother lived in Cleveland in the early to mid 1900's. I stumbled across the ohlorain site a few years back and thankfully "met" a cousin I didn't know I had. Hello, Perhaps someone answered this and I missed it. I would like to find the will for my great uncle. He died in the 1980's in Elyria. If someone could tell me to whom to write, I would be grateful. Mary ________________________________________________________________________ AOL now offers free email to everyone. When did Lorain County first begin keeping death records? I have found Augusta Schmidt/Smith in hh of son John Smith in Lorain in 1930. Not sure if Lorain County has a cemetary book or not. Her husband was Wilhelm/William Schmidt/Smith, born about 1866 in Germany, apparently died before 1910 near Lorain. Children given in 1900 census: William born August 1885 (per census) Could be my grandfather, born August 17, 1889 per his World War One draft registration. John born 1866 Clara born 1890 Florence born 1892 If there is a cemetery book for Lorain County, I would love to see if these folks are listed. If so, I need to know how to apply for copies of death certificates as well. Thanks, Will

I would greatly appreciate a lookup for an Obituary and possible cemetery info for a William SMITH/Schmitt/Schmidt...who was on the 1900 census, with wife Augusta and children William, John, Clara, and Florence, in Ward 2, town of Lorain, in 1900 (possibly Black River area???) , but who apparently had died before 1910, as Augusta is head of household. I suspect this to be my GREAT-grandfather, born Germany. 1900 census data states that William Smith was born 1866 in Germany, wife born 1863 Germany, with children all born Ohio. He apparently came 1888, and she 1883. My grandfather William Louis Smith's World War One draft card 1917 or 1918 gives birth as being in Lorain, August 17, 1889 (there is a slight discrepancy in the census for his age, but birth month on the census given for son Wm was "August"). I would appreciate any help with this. It's taken my family 30 years to get this far in finding information on my Dad's family. My grandfather died just days before Dad was born in 1930, and he was raised by his mother's brother in Mississippi. Thank you, Regards, Willie Smith Hillsboro, TN
