If "B-Tel" means Bell Telephone, I would suggest that "Ind Tel" indicates Independent Telephone - maybe a local company vs a big company. Hi List, Someone sent me a 4 page list, with small print Decedents of Philip Beal, and I have found it full of errors. The very second line Eva Beal died in 1873 ( same year as Philip) wrong she died in 1881. I think perhaps the names are OK but the dates are way off. I notice a lot of people died in 1920 and 1930. I know some of these dates are wrong. They had some of my Cousins dieing before I was born . I knew these people I talked to them and played with them when I was a child. I realize just because something is printed doesn't make it a true fact. This list has no identification on it so I have no source. Someone spent a lot of time typing it up. Ken
You also might want to check the Black River Historical Society, they have assorted years of the yearbooks. You don't need a library card to view the yearbooks at the Lorain Public Library. They are located upstairs in the Local History section. I went to the libraries in Lorain and Elyria. They have lots of the yearbooks on file. Nancy, Apparently there was a William Schmidt born 1889 over in Cuyahoga County who may be him. How do I get a copy of that record? He was listed on their online birth records section, volume something or other...Forget exactly, but apparently was born 1889. Wished I could find someone who could check over there for him or any male "Schmidt", "Schmitt", Smith, etc.. child born August 17, 1889.. ALSO think the Wilhelm who married Augusta Dehrbach in 1884 was actually in CUYAHOGA in 1900, 1910 and DID have a son Wm who is the right age! But I cannot locate the census data now. THOUGHT I had it saved! I need to get hold of that info somehow. I cannot access Ancestry. There's an older male, probably Augusta's father, in their household with a name very similar to "Dehrbach" but not spelled exactly the same on the census. In case this email bounces, please reply to me at: tenn_wolfman1978@yahoo.com . We have had some sudden medical problems and have gotten behind on a lot of bills, so they may turn off my internet for a bit. I can still go to the library and access my Yahoo mail account though. Have you ever wondered what that "cause of death" meant and what kind of medical treatment was available at the turn of the last century? Come join us for a unique look at the lives of our ancestors as they faced some common and not-so-common health issues of their day. Lorain Co. Chapter of OGS welcomes Pat Gerstner who will present "Illness and Medical Care in the late 19th and Early 20th Century" on Monday, May 14, 2007 at the North Ridgeville Public Library, 35700 Bainbridge Road, North Ridgeville. Pat is the retired Chief Curator of the Dittrick Medical History Center at Case Western Reserve University. Ms. Gerstner's career included research in medical history that touched on alternative health practices and the development of medicine in Cleveland. Since her retirement in 1998, Pat has continued her research in Cleveland medicine, particularly in early 20th century public health issues. Social time is 6:30 pm; program and general meeting at 7:00 pm. For further information, contact Jean at atmmom1@aol.com . Hope to see you there! The public is always welcome to attend. To Jane Cahl, I am interested in the old German Records. My Great Grandfather was one of the founding fathers. His name was Philip Beal the name in German is spelled Biehl. If the records are in German and you can send me a copy. I can get them translated here in San Diego by The German Research Association. I tried to reach you at your URL but my Isp didn't like you address. Ken
Hello, I have laid off genealogy for a while and now want to start again and I am very a difficult time. Has anyone ever found some one in the census and them lost them? Some time ago, (3 or 4 years) I found Nelson Anthony- 25 an ore miner and his family in the 1880 census, Matilda 20 and two sons, Charlie A. -4 and Willia, -2. I wrote down that it was Pine Twp. Armstrong County, Pennsylvania page 8 Enumeration date was 4 June 1880. I even wrote down the line they were on 28, 29, 30, and 31. Now I want to find them again and can't!! I have look for two days thinking I am really losing it. Can any one else find them for me? Thanks a million to you all. I recently purchased 14 handwritten civil war era letters, off e-Bay, from a woman in Sheridan Oregon. They are all written to Emargene, Emegene, or Gene Starr who lived in Penfield Lorain County, Ohio. Most are from her family and friends and the earliest is dated January 1861. The second letter starts off in 1865, with the latest one having of date of October 26th, 1867. There are only three of them that do not have dates but by reading them they seem to also be written during the times above. Seven letters have envelopes. Some of the places that the letters were written from are; Middlebrook, Harpersfield, Schenevus, and Fairmount. Several have some great comments of what life was like while the civil war was raging on around them and right after the war ended. One makes mention of the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. Letters have one to four pages of script. I have transcribed the letters as well as possible. Some were very difficult to read. Note that I quoted them as they read, poor spelling and all. I also scanned each letter & have it posted. If you have questions, or comments, contact al@lazlographics.com The letters can be viewed at: http://www.lazlographics.com/Penfield%20Letters.html I have other pages of interest posted on my website here: www.lazlographics.com Al Leiby
