In general, I would save my money and not get certified copies of certificates for genealogy documentation unless you do not have a choice. An exception would be if a society you were trying to join asked for certified copies. Some States such as NY only give uncertified certificates for genealogy purposes (the information is the same except it does not have the seal). You would want certified copies for legal purposes such as proving a death to get an inheritance, proving a birth for purposes of social security eligibility, etc. Margaret Scheffler ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sheila and Dave C." <grami948@yahoo.com> To: <OHLORAIN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, October 06, 2001 2:56 PM Subject: [OHLORAIN] Birth Cert Questions > Received word via mail today that one of the birth > certs/records I requested was found. Have you been in contact with Bruce Bender from Lubbock, TX? Received word via mail today that one of the birth certs/records I requested was found. Thought I'd obtain a certified copy of birth as well as copy of the ledger page for files since both exist. I'm trying to pull information together on my maternal ggrandmother's family plus get all birth/death certs gotten & filed. 1. Is the certified copy worth the extra money? What all does a certified copy contain? 2. Cash was requested.... does that mean they'll accept a check or is a money order needed? 3. Since the marriage record (1890 - 1895) and birth records (1889 & 1895)haven't been found in Cuyahoga Co. or Lorain Co. where might I look next? Have thought of Huron Co. and Erie Co. since the family was found in 1900 census in Elyria and 1910 Census in Cleveland where the family remained. Thanx for any assitance as it's greatly appreciated. I am looking for someone that has information on the Bender line I have a Bomma Bender at the North Murray Ridge grave site that I would love to identify with birth and death information and perhaps a proper Christian name, sounds alittle like a family name like an endering grandmother name to me but perhaps not. Hoping to hear from some one Marilyn
Hi all, Just got finished watching C-span nonfiction book section. They were talking about Spies and Spymasters of the Civil War. I just could not tear myself away. A very good discussion for those interested in the civil war. The book is by Donald Markle and I intend to see if it is available at the library. Just had to pass this on to my friends, too good a discussion, I believe they rerun these programs probably again tomorrow. If anyone finds a civil war button that rattles you may have one that has MICROFILM in it, can you imagine, microfilm in the 1800s Marilyn

what I would do if you want to preserve the bed is get a large bedboard cut to lay over the springs-fit it so it is held solid by rails, then put boxspring and mattress on top. Bed may be a bit high but much better for yur back. we had to do this when living in Italy one year and the board was just plywood and worked wonderfully. Mary

Can anyone tell me where I could find a listing of the dairies in business in the city of Lorain during the 1950's? I am particularly looking for those that were using horses to pull the dairy wagons. Was the Lorain Creamery on 14th and Oberlin Ave. the only one who still had the horse stables? Thanks, Jean
I used to have that kind of springs on my bed as a child, and yes you can use a regular mattress on it. Mine was not gray, but a maroon color and we use to take it outside in the spring or summer and clean it off with the hose and brushes. Brings back memories. Shirley --- "G. Yes, you can use a regular mattress with excellent results. I bought one 6 or 7 years ago to use on my Grandmother's old tubular steel bed (from about 1925-30) and it's great. We had the bed and springs sandblasted and painted by a local company. They (and the mattress people) discouraged us from using the old springs and gave various reasons, but I had it done anyway. The grey paint they used on the springs make it look like the original metal. I bought a light weight mattress cover for the springs to enclose them and keep from having to dust the springs! I love seeing my granddaughter jump and bounce on the bed just like my sister and I did many years ago! ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jane" <jhoho@lorainccc.edu> To: <OHLORAIN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, October 04, 2001 9:38 AM Subject: [OHLORAIN] antique bedspring question Hi All, I have a bed that used to be in my grandparents house.
