Hi, Internet Genealogists, I agree wholeheartedly with Nancy. Everyone should support the group which is in the area they are searching. A lot of the local groups are having problems and lack of support because so many are using the Internet (which certainly has it's place.) But the local groups are the ones who do all the work and publish records, cemeteries, etc. for our use. Even if we live afar, the least we can do is join the local society. It is because of these groups that Ohio is such a great place for researching our ancestors. The Lorain Chapter, OGS puts out a terrific newsletter 4 times a year with material which will not be found anywhere else. I am also on this soapbox! Dear Subscribers, The current ROLL CALL has got all of you paying very close attention. So please stick with me, I'm going to jump up on my soap box for a moment. There are currently over 300 subscribers to this Lorain County list. I do wonder what percentage of those 300 plus are also members of a Lorain County genealogy group? Did you know that there are currently four active genealogy groups in this county? Of course that doesn't include the many of the county's historical societies who also try to deal with genealogy requests. Even though those of us who are online can (very quickly & usually free) access a lot of data, the local groups still need our support via memberships. These local groups cannot exist without dues paying members. Next month, many of us will be getting the usual dues reminders in the mail. This prompts me to personally encourage you to consider (if you haven't done so already) to support one or more local genealogy groups somewhere. I am NOT an officer nor do I have any Ohio roots, but this is where I try to do my part. Thanks for listening. What is your opinion on this? Nancy M. Jerry, Sure glad to help and welcome to the family. Every now and then it is nice to let everyone on the list who we are looking for on our tree in case someone out there can help or perhaps we can help someone else. So ask away and maybe find someone new. Ruth Ann
My query concerns the BRUCKER and BRUCKNER families of Lorain County. My Grandmother was Dora BRUCKER (nee BRUCKNER) (b.1885, Amherst; d.1956, Lorain Co.) Dora married William H. King of Cleveland. I am told she was from a large family, but the only sibling I have a name for is brother George. Her parents were George W. BRUCKER (b.1851, Germany; d.1818, Amherst) and Katherine BRUCKNER (b.1850, Sandusky, Oh; d.1827, Amherst). Katherine's parents were Peter and Mary BRUCKNER of Baden Germany. Jerry Hobart Albuquerque, NM
I am researching the following families: Antone Sylvester Weber and wife Elizabeth Thome from Ridgeville/Avon area. Patrick H Guthrie (LeHane?) and wife Mary Margaret Gibbons of Camden area. Families intermarried into these include the following: Diederich, Diederick, Pickworth, Minnich, Knechtges, Kubuski, Thorley and many more. Mark Weber
Bob, It sounds like it might be but, I need to do some more research to be sure. If it is THANK YOU for the info it will help allot. I will keep you posted. Any idea where Chester was from? Nancy, I for one intended to join one of the groups. I am not quite sure which one as yet. I have been waiting for the year to start a new so thanks for reminding me. Perhaps I will find someone who can help me find my David Cook! Ruth Ann

There was a Harriet Jane FISHER (Mrs. Jared THOMPSON) who came to Grafton Twp. in 1828 from Hampden NY. This info is from the microfilm, WOMEN IN THE WESTERN RESERVE, complied in 1896, she had relocated to Waterloo, Wisconsin. The 1830 index lists a Jared Thompson on page 019 of Grafton Twp. The 1850 index lists a Jarell? Thompson on page 985 of Grafton Twp. Hope this helps. -- Nancy M. Hello to everyone, I am subscribed to this list because my great-grandfather was born in Elyria, OH on the 24 March 1872. I am looking for any information surrounding this event. His name was James Samuel PIERCE. His mother was Anne GILMORE/GILMOUR PIERCE born in Scotland. I do not know his father's name other than I believe his last name to have been PIERCE. James' parents lived in Chicago, IL until the death of his father in either the Chicago or Peshtigo fire (October 1871). At this time Anne would have already been pregnant. I am guessing she went to OH to be with relatives until she gave birth. The relatives could be either PIERCE or GILMORE/GILMOUR. If anyone can help me unravel this family mystery, your help would be greatly appreciated! Lorrie in WI LLESchneck@charter.net

Fellow Researchers, Sure hope some of the recent roll call messages have helped you to connect with other researchers or even a long-lost cousin. After the current Roll Call is complete, and folks get back to posting a regular message or query, please remember that you can usually get more information if you able to include 3 or 4 of the basics. WHO?...WHAT?...WHERE?...WHEN?.... Remember the "WHAT" can mean any of the following: date of birth, date of death, date of burial, year of residence, date of marriage etc. Just let us add to what you already have, if we can. Please do not ask a volunteer for anything/everything on a specific surname. The nice list of free lookups does help to eliminate that problem somewhat. http://www.centurytel.net/lorgen/lookups.htm Hope all of you have used it often. BTW, when you are able to connect & exchange data with someone, please share the specific sources you have already checked & the results. Of course, with so many people online, the number of requests have increased while volunteers are becoming fewer in number. There is such joy in genealogy, happy hunting! -- Nancy M.
